For over 40 years the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird has been listed as the fastest plane in the world. The SR-71 smashed the record in 1976. It's top speed is 2,193 mph. The Blackbird was built during the Cold War as a super spy plane. The Plane is built out of Titanium, so the plane can reach really high altitudes. The highest the Blackbird can reach is 80,600 feet, that is over twice the height of any passenger jet.
What i think is interesting is that even after 40 years no one has made a plane faster than the SR-71 Blackbird.
The SR-71 was retired in 1990
In November of 2013 media found out that a company was in research of designing the SR-72 which is told to be twice the speed of the SR-71 with a maximum speed at mach 6.
1. Do you think that the SR- 72 will be built
2. Why do you think that 40 years after the SR-71 made history that no other plane was built to beat the SR-71

You replied on two days which is better than one.
I believe the SR-72 will be built because, obviously America will build it. We are constantly looking to create bigger, better, more efficient machines; so I believe America will spend the money, and also put in the time to build this plane. They probably haven't made anything better maybe because they either don't think it's possible, they've reached the limits, it would be too dangerous for human occupation, or they would need radioactive super-material to construct a stronger faster plane.
I think that they will make the new plane. I think that they haven't made a new one because they haven't had the need to make a new model.
I think that with all of the new technology, there is a good chance that they could be working on building a newer, faster plane. It's pretty amazing how much times have changed and how far stuff like this has come. I think that the reason a faster plane hasn't been built since is probably be cause they were working on developing plans to make a plane even faster.
i have to agree with you r statement because of newer technology w have than what we had 40 years, and that designs take a while until the final design is picked out.
They might not rebuild the same exact plane, but I do think they could make a faster plane later on. Our technology has evolved so much.
I dont think there was a need to build a more faster plane.
i see by what you mean because right now there is no need for a faster plane with the technology we have today prior to 40 years ago when the plane was built.
The SR-72 may be built but after 40 years, I dont think anyone is really in too much of a rush to making it. Plus, it was just released that we are spending around 3 or so TRILLiON dollars on a new fighter jet so I'm not exactly sure if it is currently in the budget. It would be cool to see a plane that goes close to 4,000 miles per hour. I think that the military was content with the current SR-71 and saw no reason to improve it...ya know, if it's not broke, why fix it?
They might not build that specific plane, but I have no doubt that they will make a faster plane in the future. It's where technology will inevitably go.
There probably wasn't really ever a need nor the means to build a faster plane.
I don't think it will be built. There's no need for a plane to be that fast which is partly why the SR-71 was retired. No plane was built to beat the Blackbird because there was no need to go faster than that.
