The difference between German and American schools

In the American school system, students with different talents are never divided into different school types. There are three different types in the German school system. How to get to school is not a big deal for Americans because they just take their own cars, but German students must look for a bus or train connection. Germans only get their driver’s license at the age of 18. So as a German it’s very funny to see 14-year-olds driving their cars to school. Besides, in America you have the same subjects every day, while in Germany you have different subjects every day and the individual hours are spread over the week. In German schools, students usually stay in one classroom all day and the teacher always change classrooms depending on the subject. The American students change their classroom for each lesson and the teacher usually has a fixed room where they teach.

What I’ve also observed is that there are many more sports in America schools that you can sign up for. That’s one thing I like better about the American school system than the German school system. While in Germany you might do a sport next to school, there are popular football games in America. Almost every Friday there are these games where there is always a new topic for which you as a spectator can dress appropriately.

What also surprised me was being in a class with students who are a few years older or younger than you. Which people you take a class with depends on which classes you choose not whether you are a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior.

In my opinion, the two school systems are quite different from each other. And I’ve noticed many differences myself.

What are your opinions on this topic?

Would you say that the school systems differ greatly? Would you also go to a German school for a few days?

  • I think it is very interesting how different our school systems are. I like how Germany divides their students by their talents or interests and helps prepare them for something they would be interested in pursuing in the future. The driving age in America is also very funny looking at it and comparing it to other countries.

  • I think American schools are better because there are plans for students who are not as smart as others and need specialized planes and other classes like art and PE. are there to show their creativity stride and some people may be smarter than others  and need accelerated classes.

  • I think that Maerican schooling sounds better, because I am used to it. It would be fun to be in classes with younger and older classmates. As you may get to know some older classmates, as well as some younger classmates, as they could become some of your closest friends.

  • I think it's awesome how there are such vast differences between the two systems. I think that it's really cool that you get to experience how American schools function. I think that it would be really fun to try out what a German school does for a week or two.

  • I think that american schools are better becasue, their school schedules sound like they are more organized throughout the day to day. I think it is more effecient to learn all the subjects everyday vs learning one everyday. I also belive it is eaiser to have multiple grades in a class.

  • It is super cool how different schools can be in other countries. Going to school in Germany for a year would be fun because everyone and everything would be new to me and that change could be fun but also scary.

  • I think that it is really interesting to learn about other countries and how differently their schools work. I think that it would be really cool to go to school in Germany for a couple days just to see how different everything is there. I don't think that I would like not being able to drive to school, though.

  • I think that the American and German school systems do differ greatly. I would not be very fond of riding a bus or train to school because I like the freedom of driving my own car to school. That way I can drive to sports and school events. I also like how the American school system has more sports options. For example, every about ever Friday there is a football game.

  • I would say that the schools and their methonds of teaching care very different. I would rather stay in our school, because some of the stuff that the German schools have would be hard to get used to.  I would go to the German school for a few days, just to see what it would be like. I enjoy seeing what new kinds of classes you could take, or the different ways some subjects are taught. All in all, it would be a very fun and exciting opportunity.
