In Katowice, Poland, a board of people from the United States travelled to talk about coal during a conference on climate, however they spoke positively of it. Originally, the panel of people promoting coal was to showcase how far cleaner fuel burning technologies were developed. According to a spokesperson, this seemed more like a business deal than climate negotiation. Unsuprisingly, there was immediate backlash from attendees at the meeting, with laughter and protests understandably coming from the crowd. The laughter ensued because they thought it was ridiculous, with one person commenting that "[They were] done listening to false solutions and things [they] know don't work".

A report from the United Nations was only noted by some of the countries with the highest pollution output, including the USA. These countries did not say that they wanted to act according to it. According to a director of international programs from the Natural Resources Defense Center, usually countries at this meeting say that they want to change or show they see it as correct.

Although the US promotes coal, businesses are moving towards more renewable sources of energy according to the article, as they are cheaper.

What is your stance on climate change? Should we put more of an effort into laws on cutting down pollution of all forms?

I feel like more resources and laws should be put in place. If everyone and everything is dead, money just becomes scraps of paper and metal. We should put life in general over business in my opinion.

Do you think the USA should be promoting coal and fossil fuels while there are cleaner options of power? Why or why not?

I don't really know if they should promote coal while cleaner methods are available. If we want to get to no carbon emissions, we'd need to use a cleaner source of energy. Even if we cut emissions down drastically, eventually it might be able to get to the same point as with the first rate. I don't really think it's smart to advertise fir something when there is something else better on the market.

  • Good topic choice and well done Amelia! -5 late

  • I think that even if we lessen the pollution climate change is still going to occur so I don't think that it would help if we put more effort into laws in order to stop climate change from happening.

  • I feel there is no need to worry about climate change. The Earth has always been in a cycle of warming and cooling periods. Although pollution is a big problem, I don't believe it affects climate warming that much, but governments definately need to keep the pollution in check as it does harm the environment.

I believe the United States should move away from using coal and fossil fuels as they are an archaic energy source when there are cheaper and cleaner options out there.

  • I think that there should be rules for climate change. I think that there is always a better way to do something so when people are using gas for their cars they could be using electric. It will save a lot of our fossil and also many the earth and healthier place.

  • As studies come out and make people more aware of what is happening in our world. More things should be put into place to help protect our world. I think that there are better ways of producing power. I think that we should be promoting things such as solar power, and wind power.

  • In my opinion there should be laws and rules to decrease the climate change because thats a thing that affects all of us so everyone should do at least a little bit to support that.

I don't know much about this topic but if coal and fossil fuels are cleaner energy sources than others the USA should maybe use them more or as a main source what doesn't mean that they can't have other energy sources too but maybe they shouldn't use them as much.

    • I think that we should try to decrease climate change too. It effects everyone, but I hear there are theories that the poor and middle classes will feel the effects of it first. Using our best resources as main sources of energy sounds like a good idea.

  • I think more laws should be put in place, but even if some were they might not be followed as well as people hope for. I think that the U.S. shouldn't be promoting this stuff because if we can use different options we should use them.

  • I think climate change is definetly a problem that needs to be discussed. I think laws should be put into place that cut down pollution and waste. While it may makes things more time consuming and expensive, it's worth it to save the planet. I don't think we should be relying and promoting coal and fossil fuels when there are so many more cleaner energy sources out there.

    • Climate change is a huge talking point for parts of the world. Other places refuse to change, though. Laws cutting down pollution would probably help, especially in places with huge amounts of pollution. Waiting for things isn't fun, but sometimes waiting is worth it. The same thing goes for money, while something might cost a lot, sometimes it pays off. A country shouldn't promote things that aren't the best for the enviroment, especially when disasters caused by climate change are allegedly upon us.
