The US Air Force is always expected to be on the cutting edge of technologies, in order for us to be confident that we will have air superiority during any war we might get into, This new design is secretive, so they haven't given any specifics about the design. They decided that they needed a new bomber to replace the old stealth technology that we have been using since the 1970s. So this new bomber will be able to use nuclear and non nuclear bombs, be able to fly a very long distance, and fly very high. It will be the most advanced stealth technology we can develop and it will be able to operate with or without a pilot.
The military is hooping to integrate them into the air fleet sometime in the 2020s. They estimate that the development will cost around $24billon, and each individual plane will cost around $550million.
I think it is good that we continue to develop new things like this in order to keep our edge and keep this country safe and secure. We need to always make sure we have the capabilities to defend ourselves and attack others if need be. This project is in response to increased anti-aircraft advancements in technology made by countries like China and Russia. We want to make sure that we have a leg up in case something bad like a war were to happen.
Do you think that something like this is worth it? It costs billions of dollars and it is projects like this which cause a lot of our national debt. So is it worth it?

I think it is good that we keep staying on top of things with the military and technology. I think it is a good idea to spend money on this.
I totally agree, in my mind you can't put a price on making sure we have an edge so that we can defend our country. I would rather have us be in debt than be vulnerable to some other big country attacking or bullying us.
It's probably not worth it...we could spend money on better things
Like what? Other weapons, or social programs, or should we save it up or try to pay off our debt?
While it's good that we are keeping up with technology militarily, I think that the money could be spent better. I think it would be a better use of the money to bail the country out of our debt considering we are in trillions of dollars of debt.
What if though we can't pay that debt off anyway? It might be better to just invest it in making sure we won't be in danger if some countries try to collect on that debt.
I think that it isn't worth it. We are already trillions of dollars in debt, and we should stop spending money on military that we will probably never have to use.
But, we should always prepare for the worst, what idf we do get in a war. With the speed of warfare these days, if we are not ready immediately, we could be in big trouble. It's not like World War 2 where we have months to develop and build up our military before we really got into the fight.
I don't think that this is worth it. I think we're being very over-cautious. I think we need to focus on fixing our own debt before we worry about making planes we don't even need.
