As we have just done taking ISAPS a couple of weeks ago there is a lot of thoughts on whether we should have standardized testing or not an example would be the ISAPS and the ACT. The standardized test came around in the 1920s. The reason schools take these tests is because the state makes every school in the state of Iowa take them to see how good you do and if the school is doing a good job at teaching. I feel that it doesn’t show where the school needs to improve because most people forgot how to do certain things on the test, especially in math. Another reason we take them is that they claim it will show you how successful a person may be in life.
Another example of a standardized test is the ACT. In order to get into a good college, you have to take an ACT and get a decent score on it in order to get accepted. The ACT test over the following subjects English, Math, Reading, and Science. Here at Harlan, they give you around 4 hours to take the test. I think that they should not have a time limit because then some kids may not get done in time. I also feel that the ACT shows nothing about how “smart” a person is and I feel a person’s GPA is more of an accurate measure rather than a standardized test.
To conclude, I do not think we should have a form of a standardized test because it stresses most kids out, and some students give up halfway through them because they don’t want to do it anymore. I also believe that a student’s GPA shows more about a student rather than a Standardized test because some people just guess their way through it and do good on it.
Do you think we should have to take the ACT to get into college?

I think ACT's are alright to get into college because then the graduation rate can stay consistent with certain colleges, but I also think everyone should have an equal chance to get into college.
I personally think that we don't need to take the ACT test to get into college because that should not be the only way to be accepted into colleges. I feel that there should be no time limit to taking the test because people need time to think and get the answer right instead of rushing through the question.
I agree with possibly having other options to get into college.
I think that the ACT is a good way to see how all students do. They do this because an A in Avoca may be easier than an A in Harlan. These tests make sure that all high school students are scored the right way. I think it's a good way for colleges to see you as well.
I think having an ACT shouldn't be timed and shouldn't be determined if you can get into what college. High school grades should be enough to determine how the student is. Some students could be guessing and having the test timed could also stress students out while taking the test.
Is agree with having high school grades determine if your good enough to get into college.
I do not really know if the act should be a test that you have to do good on to get into college. Because sometimes people can get lucky and guess and maybe get a good score and get money for college they do not deserve. But I do not really know if we need them or not.
I do believe that colleges need more than just grades to admit students into their programs. I believe that there shouldn't be any sort of time limit on standardized tests. I also believe that the ACT should be split up so you do each of the four sections on different days or at least have a long break between them.
I like the idea of how you mentioned doing certain tests on different days.
I think that we should keep them and they are useful to get into college. I personally do try and hope I get a good score. I try so I can graduate feeling like I suceeded in highschool and just did the best of my abilities.
