As we have just done taking ISAPS a couple of weeks ago there is a lot of thoughts on whether we should have standardized testing or not an example would be the ISAPS and the ACT. The standardized test came around in the 1920s. The reason schools take these tests is because the state makes every school in the state of Iowa take them to see how good you do and if the school is doing a good job at teaching. I feel that it doesn’t show where the school needs to improve because most people forgot how to do certain things on the test, especially in math. Another reason we take them is that they claim it will show you how successful a person may be in life.
Another example of a standardized test is the ACT. In order to get into a good college, you have to take an ACT and get a decent score on it in order to get accepted. The ACT test over the following subjects English, Math, Reading, and Science. Here at Harlan, they give you around 4 hours to take the test. I think that they should not have a time limit because then some kids may not get done in time. I also feel that the ACT shows nothing about how “smart” a person is and I feel a person’s GPA is more of an accurate measure rather than a standardized test.
To conclude, I do not think we should have a form of a standardized test because it stresses most kids out, and some students give up halfway through them because they don’t want to do it anymore. I also believe that a student’s GPA shows more about a student rather than a Standardized test because some people just guess their way through it and do good on it.
Do you think we should have to take the ACT to get into college?

Great job overall Dana! The topic of ACT hasn't been done this semester but standardized testing has. +3. I would have liked you to discuss that some colleges might be moving away from requireing ACT scores. Great job replying!
I think the ACT is only required if you are planning on going to college, beacuse people like me who are not going to college do not have any reason to take the ACT because it would be a waste of time.
I think that we should have to take the ACT, but I think that it shouldn't be required to get into a college. In my opinion, it doesn't show how smart a student really is because it's one test, and some students don't even try. I think that they should look at grades a little more.
I agree with not having it be required to get into college.
I fully understand why we take standardized tests and I think they can be really good to help colleges compare students. But, I do not necessarily believe that they should be required to get into colleges. I think that colleges should look more at grades and extracurriculars rather than one number from one test.
I think stadardized test are a good way to show how you score compared to other people. Sometimes I don't thick the ACT is the best way to show if you should get into a college or not. Colleges do look at both GPA and ACT so I think overall GPA is better to have.
I understand why we take standardized tests and I see how it a very easy way to see where students are at. I think that it is sort of weird to require them to get into college though. I think that it should be based more off our grades and not our ACT score.
I do not think we should have to take ACT's to get into college because I always give up and start guessing half way through because I do not know the answers. I think colleges should look at students' GPA instead of looking at their ACT score.
I agree with colleges looking at a person GPA rather than ther ACT score.
I don't think the ACT should be required to get into college. I think it is still a good idea to take the test but not use that as a way to get into college. Other factors such as GPA and grades would better show a students knowlege and commitment. Sometimes standardized tests can be very stressful and difficult for some students to take because that test doesnt show students abilites.
