The 2020 Election Voting

This election will be different than any other election in the past.  Covid has changed so many things including how people are voting.  As of Monday before election 71% of the people that had voted in the 2016 election have already voted in the United States.  Covid and social distancing is increasing mail in ballots and early voting.  People don't want to stand in long lines close to other people and risk getting covid.  The voting is different in every state.  In some states you can mail your ballot as late as the evening of the electiion.  In some states they will not be able to start counting the mail in ballots until election day. The Supreme Court even had to get involved in a couple of states.  This will take longer than normal to count the ballots.

This year has a lot more people voting already.  Hawaii and Texas  have already passed the number of votes from last election by 110% and 107%.  Most of the time this favors Democrats but it is hard to tell this year with the pandemic.  It is hard to guess any outcomes.

1.  If you could vote this year in the election how would you vote?  Would you request a mail in ballot and vote through the mail,  Would you go vote early?  In Shelby county you can go to the courthouse any day including Saturday and vote early to avoid any lines on election day.  Or would you go to your normal voting place on the first Tuesday of November which is election day?   2.  How many days do you predict it will take after the election day before we know who the President is?

  • Good topic choice but your topic should have been US History releated this time as your previous topic was a current event. Your summary is pretty good and you did a good job replying back to everyone. -20 points for being posted on Tuesday.

  • If I was old enough I would vote in person and i would vote the same time everyone else would because it would be in person and they wouldn't have the chance to throw away any ballots because your in person.  I think it will take several days to count all the ballots and mail in ballots and they wont know who won for a couple days after or it could be longer and even maybe be a month or so.

    • I agree, I would want to vote on the day of the election but I understand if someone doesn't want to stand in line during covid.  The mail in ballots are a good deal but it will take so long to count them if they aren't due until election day.  Im guessing it will take 3-4 days.

  • If I could legally vote I would probably do in person voting, and I would probably vote early. Mail in voting has a lot of things wrong with it I believe, people can possibly vote more than once, ballots could also be throw away, and that can put another party in favor. I also think that it will take a couple of days before we know who our next president is, and it could very well possibly take a week to a month before we know.

    • I agree with voting in person and I think you should be able to vote early.  At least in person they check your ID and make sure you are really who you are.  I think mail ballots could also get lost and take longer to get there.  I think it will take 3-4 days mostly because of mail in ballots.
