An 8th grader from Texas was shot by a police officer after refusing to put down a pellet gun in his school located in South Texas.  The police officer believed the pellet gun was a real handgun and say the student had many chances to put down the gun but refused to.  I'm not sure how I feel about this incident...

Do you think the police did the right thing?

  • I think that the kid shouldn't have had the gun a school in the first place. I think that kids were in danger and that it is an unfortunate event.

  • The kid seemed really violent, so i really see were the police is coming from. On the other hand they shouldn't have shot him soo much. I think it would have been a better idea to shoot him like in a leg or something, or even tazzer him to get the boy under control. I think this was a bit mistake on the police part!
  • I think if the officer felt that he was in danger, then it was the right thing to do, but how could he honestly not know that it was a pellet gun and not a real hand gun?
  • i think the police did the right thing. if they think he was being a threat to the other kids and staff then they did the right thing.
  • its a sad story but the kid shouldnt have had a gun in the first place. and if he didnt want the cop to do anything he probably would have put the gun down, so by him refusing he did this to him self in a way. The cop was just doing his job. Im sire the cop feels terrible.

  • Have you ever been shot by a pellet gun!? no! it hurts. so to save myself i would have shot him too.
  • hmmm i think it would be the right thing if it the kid was threating thee other kids in the school. but if he was just refussing to put down the gun then the police officer should not have killed him.. but then again the police officer DID kill him, why would you kill the 8th graderr!? the officer could have shot the gun without even hitting the kid. but stuff happens....
  • I think the police did the right thing because they did not know what kind of gun it was. Another thing is that the police are taught to shot to kill so thats what they did. He refused and they shot. I feel bad that the kid had to die but still he refused.
  • I feel as if the police officer was just doing his job. I'm sure shooting the student wasn't right in the end, but at the time, I'm sure he thought he was doing this for his and others' safety. Also, the student should of put down the pellet gun when directed so by the police officer.
  • Killing someone is never right but sometimes the police just have to make that choice because they believe he was putting other people's lives in danger. Also I am sure that the kid had plenty of time to put the pellet gun down. The police should have know that is wasn't a real gun but they didn't so they really didn't have very many options since the kid refused to take the polimen's orders to put the gun down.
