Tesla on Fire

Story

The third time in 5 weeks. Three times in 5 weeks that a Tesla Model S caught on fire. Why? It is purely powered by a battery mounted on the bottom of a car. The owner of the most recent one would still "buy one in a heartbeat." His started because it hit a trailer hitch. The one prior to his was started by a spark on the road. There are still about 19,000 of these Model S cars and they scored the highest possible crash test scores from the traffic agency.

What do you think? Would you still get one of these if you had the money? Would pass on it to have one powered by gasoline?

  • Good job!

  • No because I wouldn't take the risk of dyeing for a car. In the end if someone wanted to repair the car it would more than likely cost more to repair than the car itself is worth. Some of the people who by them put their families in the car and it escapes me how you could put your kids in a death trap like that.

  • I wouldn't get one of these because they set on fire so easily even if I had the money, if I did have that much money I would buy a different car. Well if it was powered by gasoline then that would be a different story because it wouldn't run only by battery power so it might not catch on fire as much.

  • I think that these cars need to be taken off of the market because they sound very dangerous. I would  prefer to drive the old fashioned cars that you put gas in. Even if I had the money for one of these cars

  • I would pass it up for a car powered by gas if I knew they were likely to set ablaze. I'd rather pay for the gas than risk my life. Even if I had the money to waste, I would still pass it up without hesitation.

    • But when he saw smoke coming up from the bottom, and it wasn't until two minutes afterward that it the fire went off. If it were a gas tank that a spark hit, then it would've exploded, and then you are no longer there.

  • I would get a Tesla if I could afford it just because I could. Not only would it be cool having an electric sports car, they have lots of power and they are fast. The reason they can catch fire is because the batteries in these are extremely powerful. They are going to let off their energy one way or another.

    • And unmentioned in the post but mentioned in the story is the fact that it didn't heavily catch fire with it right away; there was a little bit of smoke coming from the bottom of the car, and it could still be controlled to the shoulder of the road. It wasn't until about two minutes after that the fire was severe.

  • I think that I would still buy one of these cars because they look really cool and I would save money because I wouldnt have to buy gas. I would be more careful about problems like catching fire if I bought one though.

    • But you never know when it's gonna happen. How would you prepare for this kind of thing?
