Term Limits

The 22nd Amendment states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.” With that being said a president can only be in office for 8 years if they win their two 4 year terms. So since Presidents have term limits should Congress too.

Congress is made up of 100 senators which means that each state has 2. Then there’s the House of Representatives which has 435 members, and the amount of seats each state gets varies from state to state depending on their population. As the years go on the controversy of term limits a-rise. Some people want term limits because they don’t like what their Senators or House of Representatives is doing. Or they may just want someone new in Congress. 

 

Senators currently have a 6 year term period. Where they are a senator for 6 years then if they want to be one again they will have to re-run. Then the house of representatives has a 2 year term period where every 2 years they have to run again. Some people think that it is not fair that they can run for as many terms as they want. Where presidents can only run for 2 terms, so now what do you think?

I agree that the last couple of elections have been messy and that if they would set term limits they should wait it off.

I think that term limits in big government seats should be placed. I think this because there are far too many old out-of-touch people in congress that keep winning because that all that the people know. Having no term limits on big congress leaders could lead to chaos once one old person dies right before they need to make a big decision. We need term limits!

I don't think there should be a term limit for congress because the people of the state vote for that politician to be in that position. If the politician keeps getting selected as the representative then they are probably doing a good job and the people that live in the state probably like him.

The people of America still vote for our president, yet there are still term limits. So I don't think it would make sense for term limits to not extend to members of congress. Many congress leaders who need to be out of office keep getting voted in due to the people not knowing anyone else, and the old members are most definitely out of touch with what the people really want, democrat and republican.

I do think there should be some sort of limit. But there is also a good thing not having new people in there all the time. But I feel like most of the Congress people in there now are not relating very well to how the world is changing so they aren't really taking new things into consideration. I feel like maybe we could do like a 8-10 year term with re-election because then the good people in there do get a chance to be in there again but everyone can get voted out too

I agree with how people aren't seeing the world-changing and aren't taking certain things into consideration.

I do think that there should be term limits in congress. There are many example of older people who view the United States as it was in 1980. The world is a much different place now. In my opinion we need fresh eyes who have experienced the new world and how it runs. i think that a 2 year period with reelection every two years would be ideal.

I think that 2 years is too short, but I agree that we need fresh eyes in there.

I think that a term limit is a good idea because that lets new people in and new ideas to give to the government and it lets other people get involved in the government. It also lets new young people in with new ideas to come in and let the older people go because their ideas have been in for so long.

I think it's also good because then you can get fresh ideas.
