The 22nd Amendment states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.” With that being said a president can only be in office for 8 years if they win their two 4 year terms. So since Presidents have term limits should Congress too.
Congress is made up of 100 senators which means that each state has 2. Then there’s the House of Representatives which has 435 members, and the amount of seats each state gets varies from state to state depending on their population. As the years go on the controversy of term limits a-rise. Some people want term limits because they don’t like what their Senators or House of Representatives is doing. Or they may just want someone new in Congress.
Senators currently have a 6 year term period. Where they are a senator for 6 years then if they want to be one again they will have to re-run. Then the house of representatives has a 2 year term period where every 2 years they have to run again. Some people think that it is not fair that they can run for as many terms as they want. Where presidents can only run for 2 terms, so now what do you think?
Do you think they should have a term limit, why or why not?
If they were to have a term limit how long do you think it should be and why?

I agree with you on how they should be the same as the presidents.
I think there should be a term limit in place but we must be careful to know the extent of that term limit, we can't make it too long or too short. If we make it too long others wont be able to be elected and there opinions will never be heard. If we make it too short it can result as some things being incomplete because there wasn't enough time for those people to get the tasks done that they wanted. They should definitely be put into place though.
I agree with you because if they are too short they won't be able to accomplish anything.
The terms are in place for reasons and we shouldn't get rid of them I agree with the time we have it long enough to make a difference but not too long that you can do too much damage. I like that senator can run for as long as they want because there are more than one senator and one senator can make a decision on their own.
I think that a term limimt must be in place, however we must be care not to make it to long or to short. if it is to short people will always be worried about re-election and wont be able to actuallty get stuff done. We should make sure that are counrty stays in control of the poeple.
I agree on how it should needs to be a decent length so they can accomplish things.
I think that they should stay the way they are. If the people like them enough to keep voting for them then they are doing something good for our state and keeping our ideas on the table in congress, and if they doing everything wrong then you can vote them off next election.
I definitely think there should always be a term limit, even for the supreme court. To me, no term limits mean that that person has absolute power and that shouldn't be allowed. I think that each person in Congress should only be allowed 2 terms, that way we are always refreshing congress so that we don't end up with bad people staying in congress for long periods of time.
I agree with you that they should only be allowed 2 terms.
I think that term limits must exist in order for democracy to be possible in all situations, however, we must be careful not to make them TOO short, because then people will be constantly worried about politics and re-elections to actually get anything done. We should do whatever we can to make sure our country remains in the control of the people.
