Term Limits

The 22nd Amendment states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.” With that being said a president can only be in office for 8 years if they win their two 4 year terms. So since Presidents have term limits should Congress too.

Congress is made up of 100 senators which means that each state has 2. Then there’s the House of Representatives which has 435 members, and the amount of seats each state gets varies from state to state depending on their population. As the years go on the controversy of term limits a-rise. Some people want term limits because they don’t like what their Senators or House of Representatives is doing. Or they may just want someone new in Congress. 

 

Senators currently have a 6 year term period. Where they are a senator for 6 years then if they want to be one again they will have to re-run. Then the house of representatives has a 2 year term period where every 2 years they have to run again. Some people think that it is not fair that they can run for as many terms as they want. Where presidents can only run for 2 terms, so now what do you think?

I think having a term limit is a really good idea. Usually countries that don't have term limits lead to further problems down the road. They are in control for too long and start taking control and keep promoting the same ideas. Having out presidents cycle in and out of office is beneficial to our country and give us as a nation other oppurtunities. I believe the max term limit for all government officials should be 5-6 years.  A lot can change in 5-6 years and leads to many more issues being solved by different people as they switch often.

I think that we should keep term limits because otherwise we would have the same people running our government for many years. I think that each job should get a different amount of terms. For example, I think that governers should get to have more terms than presidents.

I think they should have turn limits. This will cycle in and out politicians in our Congress and allow for new views and ideas to be brought in to our government. I think it should be 2 years, with each every 4 years. However, it would have to be offset from Presidential elections so that when a new president or Congress is elected their would continue to be work being completed.

I do think that congessmen should have some type of term limits, but I think their term limits should be much longer than presidents because presidents are a more important job.  I think something like 10 years would be a good limit for them.

I agree with how it should be longer than a president's term.

I think that term limits are great for Our country. Term limits should not be too long because we should always have new people coming in or chose if the person is fine. But term limits should not be short or else the person will not get anything done.

I think America should keep term limits because we shouldn't have the same leader for a long time. We need new ideas and new people. What happens when we get a really bad president, but people keep voting for him and he ends up being president for 16 years. We have had term-limiteds for a long time and there is nothing wrong with it.

I also feel that there is nothing wrong with term limits because we do need new ideas and people.

I think they should have a term limit because I think that if they aren't doing the right things then give someone else a try and see if they can do better for that certain state. I think it should be the same as the president because it gives them a chance to prove themselves that they are doing better for the U.S.
