The 22nd Amendment states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.” With that being said a president can only be in office for 8 years if they win their two 4 year terms. So since Presidents have term limits should Congress too.
Congress is made up of 100 senators which means that each state has 2. Then there’s the House of Representatives which has 435 members, and the amount of seats each state gets varies from state to state depending on their population. As the years go on the controversy of term limits a-rise. Some people want term limits because they don’t like what their Senators or House of Representatives is doing. Or they may just want someone new in Congress.
Senators currently have a 6 year term period. Where they are a senator for 6 years then if they want to be one again they will have to re-run. Then the house of representatives has a 2 year term period where every 2 years they have to run again. Some people think that it is not fair that they can run for as many terms as they want. Where presidents can only run for 2 terms, so now what do you think?
Do you think they should have a term limit, why or why not?
If they were to have a term limit how long do you think it should be and why?

Good job overall Dana! I do think you should have included more of your thoughts and opinions within your summary.
I believe that there should be a term limit. I believe that term limits stop a country's leader from becoming a dictator which then could turn their countries into communisms or worse. I believe a term limit should last for two to five years because then this way the politician would have enough time to make some changes that better their political party but not change the country drastically.
I do think they should have term limits. This will cycle in and out politicians in our Congress and allow for new views and ideas to be brought in to our government which is important.
I think that there should be term limits. I think that there can be good senators that deserve to stay in, however I also think that we should get some younger people in there once in a while. I just don't think that its fair for the older people to be in there all the time. I think we need new, fresh people to be in there once in a while.
I think that there should be a term limit. I know that we have some good senators and they contiune to be good, but I think that it is just not fair for other people that could be just as good. But, on the other hand, if people like this one person and wait to contiune to have them to run the state, I do think that should be fine. But overall, I think that they should change the term limit for other people to have a chance.
I agree with you because I also think other people should get a fair chance.
I think senators should have a term limit. I think that having one person in power for too long makes people complicit and can end up silencing them. When someone has been in office for so long, they're usually reelected because they continue to do good. However, I think that new ideas and new people should be given a chance to run against these old senators in order to keep our country progressing.
I agree that it can silence people, but if they're doing a good job then good for them.
I'm a little bit back and forth on the term limit situation, mainly because if we find a really good president, then there would be no reason to get rid of them. But also, if we have a bad president that's always elcted from one specific political party, then our country is out of luck.
I think it'd be great if they had term limits. If they don't we have the same people in for decades, meaning standards and ideas don't change in congress. We need some new fresh perspective in our government for both parties right now. However, I don't know that I'd set term limits right now, as the last few elections have been very messy. The last thing we need right now is to add another factor.
