Telemarketer saves a life from 900 miles away

In Las Vegas, Nevada, a sales rep for Americare Health and Nutrition dialed a number to Linn County, Oregon. Instead of the normal "hello" the representative, Chamille McEleroy, heard cries of help and despair. Chamille quickly got the attention of her supervisor, who got the attention of the CEO, Mario Gonzalez. Mario listened to the call and heard the women screaming "please don't kill me". The call was not ended on either end of the line and the workers were determined to do what they could to save this woman. The CEO was going to inform the local Las Vegas law enforcement, but instead looked up the Linn County Sheriffs office where they were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival the workers heard the officers and the whole scene inside the house go down from 900 miles away.

Questions:

  1. What would you have done if were the representative that dialed that number and got that outcome?
  2. Do you personally think you would've been able to think on your feet as quickly as those workers did?

  • Good summary! Be sure to hyperlink correctly next time. The issue is you didn't reply to anyone and that is worth 10 points per story.

  • I would have called the police but that fast probably not. I think there was no better way to handle this situation than they did.

  • I definitely would of went straight to calling the police and trying to get this person help. I probably wouldn't have been able to react that fast but I do believe the workers handled this the right way.

  • I think the workers did the right thing. It defiantly would of been scary to hear those words. If that happened to me, I think I would of freaked and would not of knew what to do and I would of probably go into panic mode.

  • I would have gotten the supervisor or CEO, pretty much the big hoss of the agency, and quickly told them the situation. I believe I would have been able to quickly act the way the workers did because I've always been the person in the group to think quickly when you're in a hot spot.
