Sam Berns, 17, died Friday due to complications from Progeria syndrome. Progeria syndrome is a rare genetic disease that happens to about every 1 out of 8 million kids. The syndrome causes stunted growth, premature aging, and the deterioration of organs very early in life. Sam was supposed to be the New England Patriots honorary team captain for their playoff game on Saturday, but he died just hours before hand. To those who knew Sam, he was an inspiration. He lived his live with optimism and inspired those around him. It is sad that Sam never got to be their captain, but I think he was honored to be asked. Do you think this disease needs more attention? If so, what can be done to get the word out about Progeria syndrome?

Well done Maggie!
I think that they should pay more attention to this disease. If it's 1 in 8 million kids, that would make it that much harder to discover something to cure it.
Sad story. At least this person touched the lives of others so that other might start to make a petition or something to have doctors start researching more about this disease.
aw that's a sad story! yeah i think it could use more attention since it is a rare disease so it probably ain't known to many people. With all the technology in the world there is alot of ways of getting people to know about this disease and to get the research done to cure it
This is really sad that he died before he could go to be the captain. I think the word should get out because it sounds like a terrible disease and will probably cause a lot of problems for people.
It's sad that Sam died before he could be captain, I'm sure he was an inspiration to his friends and family. I think the disease deserves more attention as most people have probably never heard of it.
I think those who have it should get special treatment but it shouldn't get too much attention
They can't find a cure it's just bad luck that the guy died. At least the Patriots won for him.
I think that maybe they should pay more attention to this disease because it is really unheard of. I think that they should come up with a way to get it out more and get the attention of people more so that people know about it. Hopefully it could save somebody's life if they knew more information about it.
Well if we give it time I am confident we will have something. I just hope it is in the very near future!
