Mr. Gotz [goatz] is a teacher at Hibbing High School in Minnesota. After many rude comments were made against the student's education level, body size, and even their family, a seventh grader took up the courage to start recording them. Before the student felt he needed to find proof, nothing was happening to stop this. After recording many different comments made over a couple of weeks, he wrote a letter to the school that included the comments and how they want Mr. Gotz to be removed immediately. There were comments about how his mother doesn't love him, or how different students are idiots. Mr. Gotz was put on leave for the time being and is currently not working there. There were no other comments made by either side. Click here for the story.
1. What would be your first reaction if you heard that a teacher was doing this at your school?
I would not be happy with that teacher. I would try and help out the best I can, or even confront another teacher about the situation.
2. If you couldn't take videos, what is another way to get proof?
I don't know what we would do to get proof if we couldn't take videos to be honest, but I would definitely tell someone else to get the word out.
3. Do you think that the teacher should have received a tougher punishment or not?
I don't think that the teacher should have just been put on leave, but I feel he should have been taken to court or something.

Good story choice! Be sure to continue commenting throughout the week. Also be sure to capitalize key words in your title.
I probably wouldn't want to be in the class that the teacher was teaching. You could probably just try and get a voice recording of the teacher talking during class. I think the teacher should have been fired and not been ble to teach ever again.
First off, I would alert my parents are soon as I am aware that this is occuring. Secondly, I would try and stand up to the teacher and even go as far as telling a high official at the school. Another way someone could get proof is simply recording the comments through a microphone. I think the teacher should not be allowed to work in any school and should even be fined.
I would have been outraged because that should not happen in schools. I don't think there is any better way of having actual proof of something like this. He should have just lost his job.
My first reaction would be why is she being so rude to students and why hasent she gotten fired yet
Take one of those old fashion tapes that record all sound and put it in my pocket so she cant see it
Yes I think she should have gotten fired right away and gotten charges for harassment
I think that joking is acceptable and understandable, but the comments that this teacher was making over a span of WEEKS are absolutely intolerable. It is sad that nothing was done about the comments before the seventh grader felt the need to find proof. I would be shocked and upset if a teacher at my school was doing this. I think that the teacher should be removed from the school permanently.
I find it ridiculous how some grown adults can stoop so low and act more immature and childish than their own students. Tell me, who's the adult here? It's just so hypocritical for a teacher who is supposed to demote bullying and rude comments to turn around and do exactly that. I'm just baffled as to why an adult that so clearly cannot stand children would take up a carreer in education.
If I heard a teacher saying hateful remarks like this at our school, I don't think I would have waited as long to inform others about it. I think recording his comments and then reporting them via letter was a smart things to do. However, if taking videos was not an option, I would inform higher officials and maybe have one of them sit in during a class period to keep things under control.
I don't think that he should have gotten a tougher punishment. Maybe he didn't even realize how not appropriate his comments were. Still, he needs to be warned and maybe have to tell the students that he is sorry or that he didn't mean what he said.
2. I would tell somebody, and I think if you go the principal and you are not the only one he would have to do something. One option would be to go to that teacher's classes and supervise. Also, the principal can warn the teacher, but in my opinion, the videotaping is a good way to get proof.
