The Supreme court rules that Pennsylvania can turn in their ballots up to six days after election day, as long as it is marked the date of the election. “Pennsylvania Republicans had sought to block the counting of late-arriving ballots, which the state's Supreme Court had approved last month.” The republicans also were stating that, “it is up to the state's legislature — not the court — to set rules for how elections are conducted.” The republicans didn’t really like that the state could vote after the election day so they were wanting to change it. “In its ruling, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court said that ballots could be counted if they were received by 5 p.m. Nov. 6, as long as they were mailed by Election Day, Nov. 3. It also said that ballots without a postmark would "be presumed to have been mailed by Election Day" unless there was strong evidence to the contrary.” As this said they had to be mailed by election day that they would take it but it has to be before 5pm. This is their way of approving the republicans request to stop “late-voting”. Here is where you can read about it.

New York absentee ballots mailed to Brooklyn voters with wrong return envelopes - The Washington Post

Do you think that they shouldn’t be able to go past election day? I think that they could because if it is marked the day of the election, they wold be okay. But I wouldn’t want to do that, I would want to do it as soon as I could.

Do you think that it is more up to the state legislature instead of the supreme court? I think that they are right how it is up to the states legislature not the court, but yet again the court is higher up.

  • Tour topic is fine but is more of a summary. I am looking for more of your thoughts and opinions. Also be sure to reply on three different days. -10 late

  • I think they should be able to go past election day because everybody is saying how everyone that is eligible to vote should so why would people be agianst doing that. I think it should be up to the states to make these kind of decisions.

  • I don't know how I really feel about it because if the postmark is from the day of the election then I guess it would count, but I also feel like it's not right because people are fully capable of going out and voting or voting by mail well before the election. I feel that it should be up to the state legislature because they know what is best for their own state.

  • I think that they should know the day thatthe election is over because then they will not know for weeks or later so I think that they should know who won the election on election day thay is why they call elecion day because we elect are president

  • I think that they should know the day of the election who the winner is.  So they should have them all counted.  If you want to vote early then there should be a deadline for an earlier time.  I dont think the Supreme court should decide for one state.  They should vote for all the state to be the same.

  • I think it is ridiculous to count any ballot that comes after election day just because it is marked for election day. It is incredibly, ridiculously easy to write a fake date on an envelope. This will only lead to even more voter fraud and even more cheating. This should definitely be up to the state, since this has to do with the votes of the people of that state. The supreme court shouldn't be able to make decisions for this state.

  • i think that if it is postmarked by election day it should be counted but if it has no date it shouldn't be counted to stop late voting. I think it is the job of the supreme court to make this decision because they are not in an elected position so therefore they are more non-bias.

    • I agree with you about how the dtae should be marked because if they actually might have mailled it on the election day.I also agree about how the higher court should make the decision.

  • I believe that ballots shoudl be turned in on election day and not allowing any other votes after that. So on election day we can easily tell who the president is of the United States.  I think that all states should turn there ballots in at the same time on election day.

  • I think it would be smarter to do it on the elcetion day and not taking any votes after that becasue people know when their suposed to have them sent in by. I think it should be up the the state legislature but you are right the supreme court is higher up and should make that decision.
