Superbugs Kill 33,000 In Europe Every Year

Superbugs are caused by bacteria that have become resistnat to the main antibotic used agaisnt them. Scientist believe that around 70% of bacteria that cause infections are immune to atleast one antibiotic. Superbugs are eqivalent to that of the flu, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS combined. Three quarters of those affected fell ill with the disease while being treated in a medical facility. Therefore, the impact of these superbugs can be dramtically reduced through sufficient infection prevention and control measures. The research found that the victims include people of all ages, but mostly infants and the elderly are proved to be the most defensless to the infection.

Why do you think that superbugs aren't an issue in the United States?

I believe they aren't an issue becuase we have better medicine and medical facilities, so scientist are able to control the infection before it occurs.

What are some ways that could be used to prevent superbugs?

I think if they found out what kind of bacteria causes the infection then maybe they could make an antibiotic for it to prevent it from occuring in the future.

  • Well done Grace!

  • because our country is so mixed of a climate that it doesnt wanna move over here because most of eruope is kinda chilly well if they figured out how to make it then they can find a way to reverse it

  • It different here in America than Europe because here we have really good researchers and great doctors that stay of top of things. Because if this diease came to America it would be killed quickly because they would make an antibiotic that would killed it quickly.

  • I don't think they are an issue in the United States because we have amazing health facilities, medicines, and plenty of educated scientists and doctors to control or prevent anything that could come through. I think if it came to the US they should find what the original bug is, like a virus. Then they could create a antibiotic.

  • Obviously we do have better medical resources than some of the more western European countries, but they are also a lot more barren and they have a lot more rural area than we. A good way to help prevent this or at least try to prevent deaths is to make check-ups more common, because it is more than likely that quite of few of the people who are killed by these "superbugs" don't do that.

  • The reason why the superbugs aren't an issue in the United States , is that we have better medical researchers and better cures to get rid of bad disease and illnesses. I think they could make an injection for people or a type of repelant for this bug.

    • I definetly believe that we have better medical research and cure to get rid of diseases and illnesses. We are able to get ahead of the problem and aer able to quickly find ways that can atleast slow diseases and ilnesses down for a little bit.

  • 1) Superbugs probably arent a problem in the U.S because like you said we have better medicine and medical facilities. I think it does help that we can stop the problem before it has a chance to start.

2)Finding an antiotic before it affects even worse in the future.

  • I'm from Europe and I haven't heard that we have a problem with it. Maybe it's just in some areas. I think soon they will find a medication, if it is such a big deal. otherwise maybe they should start to research more.

    • I feel like that could be the case that it may only be in certain areas. If it keeps occuring and killing people then hopefully they will find a medication, but I agree that they need to research more about it first.
