Sugary Deaths

Each year more than 180,000 obesity-related deaths are cause by sugar-sweetened beverages.  The United States is ranked third in deaths due to sugary drinks.  Added sugars have been linked to causing people to gain weight, and risk of getting diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even some cancers.  The reason sports drinks have high fructose corn syrup is because elite athletes can take in sugar to replace what they have lost.  People are now sitting there doing nothing drinking these cause the things listed above.  The average US teenager consumes 4 pounds of sugar a week.

This won’t stop people from drinking them, but next time you take a sip, think of what could potentially happen to you.  Will you cut back or keep drinking?

I know I won’t stop drinking sugary drinks, but I will cut back.

  • Wow that is kinda of embrassing to be third ranked

  • Sugary drinks aren't the only things that cause diabetes, and i don't know if people understand that. It takes more than sugary drinks to get diabetes and die

  • I think that number will only rise as the years go on. sugar is kinda addicting. haha

  • I know I need to decrease my sugar intake. I'm going cold turkey with pop this summer and seeing how it works for me. It's sad to see how high the number of deaths is. people in general should learn to respect their bodies more.

  • While these drinks are designed for the people while playing sports, they need to realize that not everybody is going to play sports while drinking these. The beverage companys should really cut back on the sugar for everybody.

  • I think this will make people think about their health choices, and tell themselves they'll stop drinking so much. But i also think they won't stick to their word. 4 pounds a week is pretty disgusting if you think about it

  • I think from this post, I will definitely cut back on drinking pop. I think that just cutting back will help a bunch.

  • I stopped to drink that kind of drinks a long time ago because I knew all of those problems that sugar is causing

  • I don't think people should have to stop all together from eating and drinking surgery things..they just should go overboard with it and eat/drink too much plus if they exercise now and then that might help too??

  • This is so scary! I dont think we relieaze how harmful these things are until something happens to us or our families. In other words it's a slow killer
