There is so much pressure on students to do well in school and get good grades that it affects their health mentally and physically. Students can feel pressured by teachers, parents, and even themselves. Some students will go to extremes in order to get good grades. They’ll stay up late into the night, sacrifice going out with friends, or skip meals to do homework or study. I myself have done all of these. Some students will do these things, and still not get the grades they were hoping and working for.
A huge part of this problem is that there is no balance between how long a student does schoolwork, and how long they give time to themselves to relax. Teachers also need to do better at setting up realistic expectations. I think a way teachers would do better at this is to communicate with each other so they don’t all give out a lot of homework on the same days. I’ve been in situations where I have homework in every single class in one day, and it’s all due the next day. Then I end up doing homework from the minute I get home until midnight.
This is where students’ mental health starts to go down. As soon as their grades drop they feel like they’re not working hard enough or they develop stress and anxiety. Students also feel pressure to satisfy their parents with their grades. This adds even more pressure to the pressure they already feel from teachers. I think the main source that my pressure comes from is myself because I have this perfect picture in my head of how my grades should look. I think our school and many others need to support students who feel academically pressured. These students need to have somewhere or someone they can go to when they feel stressed.

Great topic choic and well done Lauren!
Personally I feel it for about a day or two, but I don't really care about the grade unless is something drastic like a D or C-. Other than that I'll take because I know that I'll do better in the next activity. I think they can give them a little break, but I really don't have many ideas.
I feel like there is definitely pressure to do well. I think that most people wouldn't want to let their families down and do bad. I think that there should be a little less homework that we have to do. I also don't think that many tests are needed, I feel like once you study for one test you just try and remember all the information, and when the test is done you just try and wrap your head around a different test while also forgetting the previous information.
I agree that most students study for big tests and cram information into their brains, and then after the test is over they just forget about it. Honestly I don't remember many of the things that were on tests first semester. Semester tests are a great example of this.
I do feel pressured to do well in school, at times. We are being taught that our future depends on our grades that we get in High School. When you get a bad grade, it could cause you not to get a scholarship in the future. On the other hand, you have to be able to manage yourself and have self-control in order to do well in school. You have to apply yourself and not always rely on others to get the job done for you. I hate homework and school in general, however, I know it is normal for kids to hate it. Even if it is hard at times, you still can't put the blame on your teachers. Many students are just lazy and don't apply themselves. Some students may also have other problems that they just blame on school.
I agree that while we go through school, we are thought that our future is dependent on our grades.
This year has been crazy with the whole covid virus going around. The school is putting more preasure on the teachers to cram as much learning into the time we have in school. And we are doing 1 quiz and 1 test all in a week and it keeps repeating there is so much information and work crammed into a week it's hard to retain any infromation and still pass your quizzes and tests. I guarintee that the average GPA this year will have dropped substantially.
Yes, I do feel pressured at times to get good grades. Although, I know how to manage my time and work hard enough to achieve those grade. I do think schools should work out a way to get homework scheduled better. I also think some students overreact. Most students have a studyhall to get it done and school offers mtss. I don't have study hall and I still get my work done and get 8 hours of sleep. I also do a lot of extra curricular activities that take up my time. I also believe it was the same way for our parents when they were in school and they didn't have all the problems we complain about today. I honestly believe some students have underlying issues and blame it on school, or they are just lazy and want less work.
I agree that some students overreact, but many times they are feeling pressure in different areas of their life. So your situation can affect how much stress and pressure you feel.
There is a lot of pressure that comes along with school and getting an eductation. Students feel pressured to get good grades because getting good grades is important if you want to go to college and get scholarships that make school more affordable. School work can definately get to be too much, so I think that it is important for students and educators to understand the breaking point of students. I also think that it is important for kids to spend some time on themselves and find healthy ways to deal with the stress. Also, I believe that everyone needs a mental health day for themselves every once in a while when everything gets to be too much.
