Stranded!!

A women was stranded on Mt. Hood for 6 days. Mt. Hood is located in Oregon. Mary Owen is not a rookie at hiking. She was hiking that day and fell and cut her leg open. She went into a snow cave and waited for someone to come find her. Hours had passed, and no one had came. She made fires to keep warm, and she melted snow for water. She is a 23 year old college student who had planned on climbing with a bunch of friends, but all the plans changed and she went alone. She was rescued six days later when a helicopter flew over. She was taken to Portland's Legacy Emmanuel Hospital where the doctors warned her that she might lose her toes.

My brother, Travis, sent us the video of this gal with the note saying, "I operated on this girl." I am completely serious when I say this. I am glad that they found Mary. She kept saying she knew she would survive! What is really neat to me is that my brother was a part of what happened at the hospital! What are your thoughts? Below is the video link!

  • WOW EMILY THAT IS SO COOL THAT YOUR BROTHER HAD THAT EXPERIENCE WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW! this girl is a role model for sure. honestly a lot of people would give up.. BUT SHE FOUGHT FOR HER LIFE GOOOOOOOOOO MARRRRYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's pretty impressive that Mary was able to keep herself alive far that long. I saw this story on the news last night and I immediately couldn't help but think how lucky she is. So many things can go wrong when your out in the wilderness by yourself, but Mary did break one of the most important rules to remember, even when you do have a lot of experience..."Always bring a buddy!"

  • This is cool!! She is a very smart girl but where was her phone? And she shouldn't be hiking by herself even if she is experienced!! That's really cool that your brother was involved in this!!

  • That is cool your brother got to be in this. I am suprised it took so long to find her i feel bad for her. Good thing she was experienced and knew how to survive. Props to her.

  • Wow! thats awesome that your brother got to operate on this girl! thats cool! well i guess her story isnt very, but im glad shes okay and better! i hope she gets to keep her toe! prayers go out to her!!

  • thankfully she survived! That is really cool that your brother got help save this lady's leg. She is lucky she had all the things needed to survive for that long!

  • First of all why would you go hiking by yourself! I think that is dumb idea, because that could happen and no one found her for six days! Thats a long time to be out in the wild and in the cold! Im glad she knew what do though!

  • This is crazy! I am glad that Mary survived. She is very smart for staying put. I'm not exactly sure what I would have done in a situation like this. It was really intelligent of her to melt snow for water. It is really interesting that your brother helped with this. I hope she turns out fine.

  • im glad they found her that would be scary!

  • Wow thats really cool your brother helped this women! I would think she would have been a little smarter and went climbing with atleast one other person. That way if something like this did happen maybe one of them could have gone for help. She is definitely a survivor if she could survive this!
