Kevin Mccarthy was elected Speaker of the House on January 7th of 2023 after 14 failed voting sessions by the House of Representatives. On October 3rd, 2023, Speaker Mccarthy was taken out of the position by Florida Republican Matt Gaetz who motioned to vacate the position. Mccarthy was not a crowd pleaser by any means as many republicans voted against him in nearly every vote. So, why do people not like Mccarthy and what happens now in the House of Representatives.
Why do people not like Kevin Mccarthy? Many people thought that Mccarthy did not do what he said he would do. Some thought that he did not cut government spending as much as he could have. Mccarthy angered House Democrats by inquiring about impeaching Joe Biden. Many Republicans criticized Mccarthy for relying on Democratic votes in order to pass his bills.
Who will be elected as the Speaker of the House? Speaker Kevin Mccarthy has said that he will not try to run for speaker again. Usually the House votes everyday, or almost every day until they elect the new Speaker. The 212 Democrat representatives are likely to vote for minority house leader, Hakeem Jeffries. 200 of the 221 Republican representatives are voting for representative Jim Jordan with the other Republicans voting for various other candidates.
What happens now in the House of Representatives? The House can no longer pass any bills or acts until they elect a Speaker of the House. Important bills like funding the government or aid for Israel will not be passed either. Currently Representative Patrick McHenry is acting as the placeholder for the spot. McHenry is not allowed to pass legislation however as this is the first time that a placeholder has been needed in the House of Representatives.

Who do you think will be elected to Speaker of the House?
Do you think that the Republican nomination will win?
Do you think that the House will get back to passing bills soon?

Glad you chose this topic! Well done Levi!
I think that the house will get back to paasing bills soon it just needs to get a new person in the house so they can start doing that again. And when that time comes it will start passing the bills and other things that the country needs.
I would guess that the Republican nomination will win because the Republicans control the majority of the House. I don't know enough about any canidate to promote or hate them. The House will probably take a few weeks to actually agree on a nominee.
You are correct as Republican Mike Johnson was elected to speaker of the house with 220 votes. This election happened much quicker than expected.
You were right as a republican Mike Johnson won speaker of the house last night during a vote. He won with 220 votes, which came from every republican representative present.

I don't have an idea of someone who might be the speaker of the house, but I do have a question. Why would they nominate the old speaker of the house if they planned on taking him out of that position not even one year later? I think they will be able to pass bills soon.
I believe that the republican party just wanted a speaker of the house so that they could start passing bills as soon as possible. A few of the Republican representatives changed their mind on Kevin Mccarthy.
