Space Tourism: Would you do it?

Space tourism is the concept of traveling into space where people can experience recreational space activities. It may seem like a new concept, but it has been around for more than 20 years. The first “space tourist” was Dennis Tito who stayed in space for 6 days with the International Space Station. This caused a breakthrough for the space tourism industry as more companies started creating opportunities for the wealthy to travel to space. At the moment, some major space travel companies are SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, and Blue Origin. However, this industry is only privately directed to a rich selection of people. The cost for a eight-day long trip in space is around 55 million dollars, or possibly even more.

The pros of space tourism include providing economic growth, increase in scientific knowledge, and creating more job opportunities in the space industry. With the increase in interest in space travel, comes the increase of money made from the industry. This can help make money for the government to use for other projects they are working on. The customers on the space trips can help with experiments and tests that can provide more knowledge about space while still getting them to experience space. And finally, more job opportunities are open in the private space industry since space travel is expanding more and more.

The cons of space travel include safety hazards, not accessible to everyone, and could cause a major strain on the resources needed to make different spacecrafts. The amount of things that could go wrong during a trip like this overcome everything that should go right. The spacecraft has to be perfect, the people have to be physically and mentally fit, and it wouldn’t be possible to know what could happen while in space. Additionally, the space travel industry is so expensive, only a select few are able to go on it which can cause a lack of diversity in the business. As more people are wanting to go on the trips, more resources are needed for the different spacecrafts and satellites for the duration of the trip. This can cause a shortage of certain materials that might be needed for other projects and supplies.

I personally think it would be an interesting experience traveling into space. However, there are a lot of things that could go wrong that could make me rethink the decision of going. If I would go on the trip, I would do it when I would be older so if something did happen, I wouldn’t have missed out on the rest of my life. This space tourism industry reminds me of the Titanic submarine that got lost during its expedition. This is a great example of how new technology and innovative ideas can go wrong when they are in the middle of their exploration. So what  do you think?

Would you be interested in traveling to space?

What other problems could go wrong during this expedition?

What other new businesses like space tourism and the Titanic submarine can you think of?

  • Good topic choice and super job Anastacia!

  • I would not want to go to space yet. I would like it to be proven by everone else before I would even consider it. It would also have to be very cheap for me to spend my hard earned money on it. I do value my life enough that I would not want to go into an endless vacuum.

  • I think it is a cool thing that we can now do but me personally I would hate traveling to space because I like earth and there are so many things that can go wrong and make me become deceased.

  • I think it would be really cool, I've always wanted to leave earth because I love exploration and going to new planets, exploring the galaxy would be so amazing. I've always loved space and just being cerious on whats out there.

    • I also think that space is very interesting with all its planets and unknown features. It is interesting to think about what might be out there and when we will find out more about it.

  • I would want to go to space if it was not so much money. Anything could go wrong on these expeditions though. Bad things have happened before. I think another expedition you can do is trying really fast cars at a race track.

    • I agree that going to space is very expensive and that many people miss out on the oppoutunity because they can't afford it. I think that trying racing cars is a good example of another type of dangerous activity people may want to do.

  • I think space is very interesting and cool, but I would definetly not risk taking a space tour. Space is never ending, so obviosuly so many of it has been unexlpored, which if I were to go on a tour, would scare me. I have heard about so many inccidents that have happened to those going into space that I would not want to be appart of someday.

    • I agree with space being very cool and interesting, but the dangers are not worth it to travel there. The are endless possiblities of things that could go wrong during the trip.

  • I would not be interested at going to space at all. If their is any malfunction their is a high chance you will never come back. Their isn't any that I could think of but I would never visit space.
