Solar panels

Solar power should be used more to slow down pollution and global warming. And it's also cheaper in the long run cause you get it all from the sun. but a couple down sides are that they contain lead that can cause brain damage. And solar panels are expensive to buy and to maintain.

Solar panels save people up to 90% off of their monthly electric bill each month. And because the price of solar panels is expensive they will pay themselves off over time. But they do cost a lot to buy and to instal. If you live in a 2000 square foot house you have to pay $15,000 -$40,000 depending on your electrical use.

The down sides of solar panels are that they contain a lot of lead in them. Lead can cause kidney and brain damage and birth defects to your baby. And the batteries for 10 Kw battery cost $14,000 and over time you will have to replace the battery over time.

Do you think solar panels are a smart idea?

Would you get solar panels?

Do you think it's a good investment?

  • Tony,

While your topic is good, put more of your summary is brief. It looks to be three paragraphs but I consider what you wrote to be really one paragraph. Expand more with your thoughts and opinions. Talk about the history of solar power in the US.

The bigger issue is that you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.

  • I think that solar pannels are a great idea because they reduce the cost of electricity. I would definetly consider getting solar pannels in my lifetime. I think that solar pannels are a great investment because they save the user lots of money over time by reduceing the cost to preduce the power.

  • I think that they would be better for older people who have bought a house and would like to spend less money on their electric bill over time. I dont think it would be better for younger people because they might want to move to another house after five or six years which might not be long enough to pay off the panels and istalation. They also might not have as much money saved up to buy all of the supplys.

  • I do think that the idea of them is good but the effects and causes of them aren't worth it, and if they truly wanted to promote them they would make them cheaper so more people could afford them. I personally would not get solar panels because of all of the health issues, and no I do not. With how expensive they are it would take a very long time to be able to pay it off.

  • The idea of renewable energy has always been great -- but that's the thing. It's an idea, and a wonderful on at that. But when you put in the prospect of the real world, things become a little bit trickier. The economy must remain stable at all times. What's our stable energy source? Non-renewables like fossil fuels and natural gas are the first that come to mind. They are significantly cheaper compared to renewable energy sources and there is currently an abcess amount of them. They are diminishing fast however, and our planet is warming at unprecedented rates. We must begin the transition over to renewable sources like solar panels, or the Anthropocene will truly be upon us.

  • I agree that us humans need to do something about our carbon footprint.  Solar panels sound like an amazing idea however, there are some problems with solar panels.  Solar panels are expensive.  It would cost around $18000 to buy and install them.  The next thing is that solar panels will eventually go bad so you will have to replace them. Replacing them will cost money as well.  I think that solar panels will be useful eventually but for now I think that people are going to stick to using regular fossil fuel generated energy.

  • I think solar panels would be a great idea and great way to use natural energy. I think solar panels need to mentioned more so people become more aware of how much they will benefit for us and the amount of money people can save on electricity. I think if more people became aware of this topic they would definitely consider purchasing them, there just not known about enough around here for people to make that decision.

  • I think that the idea of solar pannels are a good idea. I think that maybe they need a little improving before more people will buy them. I do think that more people would use them if they were more educated about the topic. Around here you don't hear too much about them. I do think they are a good investment depending on who you are.

  • I think solar panels are a great idea because you can save money in the future. I would like to get panels in my house when I'm older, but I think it is something you need to save money for because it is expensive. I think it is a good investment because in the future you can save money and get back your investment. Also you can help the planet.

  • I think solar panels are genius and a great source of natural energy. I would get solar pannels some day but they definetly have some downsides. I think solar panels are probably a good investment especially in the future.
