Social Media Outlet "TrumpTown" Launches

Nearly two weeks ago, 21-year-old Addison Riddleberger created TrumpTown.com, a social media outlet for conservatives and Trump supporters where they can express their opinions. On many mainstream social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, people to the right side of the aisle are consistently censored, suspended, or banned. The creator of TrumpTown found this issue troubling, especially after getting eight political pages he ran banned. He became frustrated and decided to create an alternative social media outlet where people can have civil debate without fear of being censored or banned, with the exception of neo-nazi, KKK content. According to Riddleberger, the site has a similar layout to Facebook with a news feed and a friends system, but is more anonymous like Twitter. To prevent TrumpTown from just becoming an echo chamber where people just agree with each other, Riddleberger says he will welcome anyone who will engage in political discourse.

1. What do you think of conservative sites such as Prager U or Louder with Crowder having their content censored on social media platforms?

I think that banning anyone's content who is not inciting violence is wrong. Just because the owners of the companies disagree with the sources doesn't mean they should censor them.

2. What do you think of an alternative to left-leaning social media outlets?

Since media giants like Google, Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter all lean to the left, it would be refreshing to see at least a more impartial or right-leaning outlet.

  • Well done Jack!

  • I think having that content blocked and blocked while people on the other side of the spectrum getting no such limitations is absolutly awful and unconstitutional. I think that a unbiased news channel is much needed in the United States, but with the amout of left leaning ones, I think a right leaning one is well deserved.

  • I think it is a terrible thing to do when our first amendement literally states that we should have freedom of speech. Even as a person who leans to the left myself, I think the outlets should not censor right-sided content.

    • I respect that you don't think that opposing viewpoints should be censored. While I may disagree with almost everything on many sites, they shouldn't be silenced just for having a different political viewpoint.

  • Nobody's opinion should be censored, unless it is meanspirited or hate speech-esc. If you spread false information that harms people, then that should be taken down.

I don't have a problem with most places being left leaning. More people on the social media sites would have to be left-leaning for a social media site to be dominated by their beliefs. As long as it isn't harming anyone, distorting the truth, or creating an echo chamber of reinforcement for bad things then it should be fine.

    • I don't think that speech should be censored unless it is directly inciting violence. I disagree that people that distort the truth or say hurtful things should be censored. It isn't good to do those things, but I don't think they should be banned.

  • I think that people should have the right to voice their opinon on social media. I do think that some posts should be censored if there is incorrect information on the pages or if the posts violate any of the sites terms. I think that things should remain consistent and stay leaning left.

    • While I disagree that social media should remain left-wing, I agree that they have the power to censor content if they violate the terms. However, these sites take this too far by just censoring people they disagree with, rather than truly violent rhetoric.

  • Nowadays people can get offended at anything that is said even if it doesn't even apply or involve them in anyway. We need to learn to have some tolerance in what people say. Words are just words, they can't get to you unless you let it.

    • Agreed. People are way too easily offended now. There isn't any reason to be offended just because people disagree with you. Disagreement breeds good conversation, which is what democracy is built upon.
