Siblings die in house fire

Seven Jewish siblings that were killed in a horrible fire in New York were finally laid to rest in Jerusalem today. Many friends and family came to the ceremony, including the Chief Rabbi and the mayor of Jerusalem. They were immediately flown to Jerusalem after their deaths, because according to Jewish tradition, the funeral takes place as soon as possible after death. "Why seven? Seven beautiful lillies," said father Gabriel Sassoon. The mom was able to jump out of a second story window to try and get help for her children. The cause of the fire is believed to be from a hot plate , which was left on for the Jewish Sabbath.

How would you react if these were your children?

Should the practice of hot plates for the Jewish Sabbath stop?

  • Again, you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth ten points per topic. Also, be sure to hyperlink correctly.

  • I would have done the same thing the lady did; anything to help my children. I wouldn't say that using a hot plate should be halted, but definitely more carefully handled.

  • I would be very upset if my children died because of a hot plate. Also if I were her I wouldn't be doing/using th hot plate anymore they have proven to be dangerous. Also why wouldn't she have tried to get some of them out with her.

  • I don't think that this will stop the selling of the plates nor should it ... This was a tragic accident but could have been prevented. I would be completely torn and shattered if these were my siblings or even children!!

  • I would be distraught and I wouldn't know what to do. I think that the hot plates should continue, because it's apart of their religion and culture, they just need to be more vigilant and cautious about when using them.

  • I would probably start blaming myself for not being able to save them.

  • I would be very sad if these were my siblings. I think this was just a freak accident they shouldnt just stop the whole practice of there religion because of one accident

  • It would be hard to stay even a little bit positive. I don't know what I would do without my children. Parents would do anything for their children but when something happens that they can't do anything it must be the worst feeling in the world. I think that if it is what they believe in they should keep doing it. No one should tell you what you can and can't do for your religion.

  • I don't even know what I would do and I would rather not think about it haha. And I don't think it should stop if that's what they do. It could happen to anyone.

  • I would probably try to find a way out like the mom did, but be scared if I was trapped in by the fire. I think that it is very rare that something like this happens, so they will probably continue the practice of using hot plates.
