Since the beginning of this school year we have been forced to put our phones in pouches as soon as we walk into the classroom. We have no choice, we HAVE to put our phones in the pouches. There really is no point in doing this. Personally I think this rule is useless. But of course, I’ll follow it since it’s one of the rules, but I don’t think it should even be a rule in the first place.
One of the cons of this rule is that some kids will happen to leave their phones in the pouch without knowing. For example, some kid left a phone in Ms. Arentson’s class and it was there the whole weekend. If an emergency would’ve happened, then what could’ve that student done if they don’t have their phone. Some teachers won't let us grab our phones until the last minute and that'll lead to many tardies, especially if one of your classes is on the next floor. Eventually all those tardies will lead to detentions.
There really aren't any pros to the phone pouch rule, it’s pointless. Instead of the phone pouches we should be allowed to have our phones in our bags. If we happen to bring them out and get caught on them, then that’s on us. I shouldn’t have to have to put my phone in a pouch every class period because of other students’ actions. We should be allowed to have our phones in our backpacks at all times. If someone brings out their phone then that’s on them.
What do you think about the phone pouch rule?
If the phone pouch rule were to be replaced, what would you rather have?

Well done overall Michael! The topic had been done once at the very beginning of the school year so maybe it was ok to revisit the topic a month or so later. You did a great job replying the only isssue is that they were all done on two days instead of three.
Honestly, I think the phone pouches aren’t hurting anything if anything helps to keep people off their phone. I can also see that it can be bad because people forget their phone and might have an emergency, but that is their fault for forgetting it.
It does help some kids stay off their phones but not very many. The vast majority of us can and will stay off of our phones for the duration of the class period. It is partly the student's fault if they forget their phone in the pouch, but they're more likely to forget it with this new rule.
I actually think it is ok, because you stay more focused in class without your phone and at least it is just for an school hour.
For me it is not a big deal and you study more though.
The classes are only 43 minutes long, most of us are able to handle not going on our phones for that long. It doesn't really help with anything and we're just more likely to forget it due to this new rule.
I don't think that phone pouch really does much because the same people don't put their phone in there everyday and not everyone follows it. I don't think the phone pouch does much for the people who actually follow the rules because then they wouldn't need the phone pouch in the first place. And that if someone is on their phone during class its their fault.
Some of the kids who are addicted to their phone don't follow the rule and go on their phone anyways. Although, the whole point of this rule is to keep them from doing that exact thing. That just leaves the rest of us, who are able to handle not having our phone, to put our phones in the pockets. Even while I'm doing my homework right now I can keep myself from going on my phone for 2 hours.
I agree with you. Putting our phones in pouches isn't helping us at all. Most people don't use their phones during class, so why should all of has have to follow a rule put in place that supposed to help decrease that. In the real world where not being on your phone while doing you job is the obvious rule, there are no pouches for you to put your phone in. That's because these jobs already expect you to have self-discipline. We aren't leaning that skill by putting our phones in pouches.
Exactly. There's no point to it. We have to learn how to stay off of our phones ourselves and not expect someone to take it from us if we're on it. A phone pouch isn't gonna help us learn that skill when we get a job.
I think the phone pouch rule is dumb and make highschool seem more like middle school. Also most people know to stay off there phones in class and to not go on it when the teacher is talking.
