In the 1920s is when standardized testing all began. Back then they used it to see if kids were gonna be “successful” in life or if they were gonna be a little slower. Which if you think about it that is horrible to think about. Looking back researchers realized that standardized testing is not a good way to be able to see what a kid is capable of doing inside and outside of the classroom, instead they realized there are other ways to tell. The reason they think that it needs to be stopped is that the companies that are making the test are making time limits. With these time limits, kids start to get stressed and worry more about the time they have left rather than what they really should be focusing on.
For example, the ACT is a standardized test you will most likely take if you want to go to college. On the ACT they test you over the subjects English, Math, Reading, and Science. So with these tests that take about four hours, they are expecting you to do good on it. I can’t believe they really expect that. Just to make it even worse research shows that having a big test with a time limit does not give effective results.
Another example would be the Iowa Assessments. Do you really try on them or do you walk in and just fill out the answers, so you can be done with them already. Plus with the Iowa Assessments, they stretch it out throughout days. I can see the benefits of it, so it’s not all at once so kids will try, but after the first day, the kids just are done and over the test.
Since corona hit last March they put a stop to these tests for a couple of months. In those months they realized these standardized tests are not very effective. They also realized that a student’s GPA is more reliable and can show what kids are actually capable of doing. So with that being said, they thought about canceling them all in general, but the chances they actually do that are probably very slim.
Should they get rid of standardized tests?? Why or why not…
Do you think standardized tests are effective?

I personally don't like standardized tests. They're hard and put so much stress on students and even teachers. I believe they're effective because the teacher can know where all of the students are individually. This can help them understand what they need to teach better or even reteach. However, I don't think they should be gone.
I don't think you should have to do standardized test when you are going to college for some degrees because you don't need some of those specific area's for some degree's. They could be effective so you know how you are doing in a class but I don't think they are very effective.
I agree with how you said some degrees need them and some just don't.
I do not really see the point in standardized testing since it really just teaches kids to do is mesmerize and resite information. I do not think that standardized testing is effective. If anything it should be over things that the majority of people need to know like how to change a tire or how to file your taxes.
I totally agree with your statement. I also feel they should test us over things that we will need in the real world rather than the stuff they test us on.
I think that they should take away standarized test because if someone isn't feeling good that day they might get a bad grade on one of the test that show badly on how they did. I don't think that standarized test are effective because they stress people out when taking them.
I strongly believe that we should get rid of standarized testing. This form of testing is not necessary and more modern ideas should replace it. It's hard to think that one simple test is going to determine your future, and it is way to stressfull. Plus it has been proven that this tests are not very accurate to measure people's intellegence.
I totally agree with you because I also think it's wrong how a test can determine your future.
I think this form of testing should come to an end. As students, we are being stressed out for nearly no reason. These tests are determining our future. Rather than cramming, dare I say useless information, down our throats, we should be learning about things we are interested in and will really help us to be contributing members of society.
I agree with you because they just expect us to know some of the questions when in reality they could be teaching us, but instead, we are just guessing on these tests.
