Should We Do Block schedule all year round?

This week with ISASP we are doing this new block schedule, I was wondering what it would be like to do it all year round, are there any benefits to it? There are many advantages and disadvantages. Some a disadvantage is if you miss a day you miss a lot more than usually class. With the classes being longer you can learn more in one day which is good but is also bad because if you are sick you miss a lot more and is harder to make up the work.

One advantage is that teachers can get more into depth with each subject they are teaching. The extended class periods allow the teacher to have more time to teach, So the kids can get a more in-depth understanding of the topic. It also allows more time for homework to be done in the class, if the teacher finishes class with thirty minutes left the kids can ask questions and finish it in class. While with a normal class they wouldn’t be able to have fun outside of school because they would be doing homework.

Another reason it is good is it allows the teachers to get to know the students better. The teacher will see fewer kids in a day so they can talk to more people, and get to know them on a more personal level. Which makes the class more fun, if the teacher understands how you act. In my opinion, I haven't hated this week of block scheduling, but I haven't liked it either. The classes I don't like as much are to long, so I think that normal 43 min classes are the perfect length of classes. Those are a few of the many advantages and disadvantages of having a blocked schedule

Would you like to do block scheduling all year round?

Did you like this week of the block schedule?

  • I don't think block scheduling would be the best idea for our school. While this allows time for teachers to go in-depth over the subject they are teaching, many students will get bored easily. I know I had a very hard time keeping focus throughout all of my classes, but especially the ones I don't like. This would most likely cause harm to the education of students in the long run.

    • I agree, when the teachers were trying to teach I got bored after the normal amount of time usually spent in the class. That's why I think that the class lengths are perfect now enough time to get things done but also not too long so students get bored.

  • I don't think we should do block scheduling year around , because the classes are too long. I personally like to get up and go to a different classroom instead of being in the same one for hours. I didn't like this week of block scheduling, it felt too long and went slow for me.

    • I Agree, that a little 3 minutes in between allows students to stretch and get awake. Although it may make the day feel longer we are still in school for the same amount of time, just each class is longer.

  • I do like the block schedule however I don't like the hour of math that you have to sit through even though the teacher can go more in depth. I did like the week that we had block schedule since it allowed more time to do work and other things.

  • I think block schedule is a good idea but it does have its cons. It gives students plenty of time to ask teachers for help and not rushed to learn. The downfall is that kids get bored easily in class when they are told to sit there for such a long time.

  • I don't think doing the block schedule all year round would be the best choice for many kids and it also makes class so long with five minute breaks in between. Sitting in class makes my ansy and want to move around so I don't want block scheduling all year round. I don't mind having it one week in the whole year though.

  • I think that I would be would be willing to do block schedule but either way is fine with me. I enjoy having some of my classeslonger but others I wish wouldn't have been. I did like some parts of the block schedule last week like in art class but I felt like math class was too long.

    • There are some benefits from both schedules, but I think that our original schedule is better.  Many of the classes I didn't like were way too long, and classes we usually don't do much in was to long.

  • I do not think that we should have block schedule all year round because I feel that it could be too much time in just one class, and/or sitting in the ssame room for a long period of time when you could be learning about many other subjects/topics.
