Should We Do Block schedule all year round?

This week with ISASP we are doing this new block schedule, I was wondering what it would be like to do it all year round, are there any benefits to it? There are many advantages and disadvantages. Some a disadvantage is if you miss a day you miss a lot more than usually class. With the classes being longer you can learn more in one day which is good but is also bad because if you are sick you miss a lot more and is harder to make up the work.

One advantage is that teachers can get more into depth with each subject they are teaching. The extended class periods allow the teacher to have more time to teach, So the kids can get a more in-depth understanding of the topic. It also allows more time for homework to be done in the class, if the teacher finishes class with thirty minutes left the kids can ask questions and finish it in class. While with a normal class they wouldn’t be able to have fun outside of school because they would be doing homework.

Another reason it is good is it allows the teachers to get to know the students better. The teacher will see fewer kids in a day so they can talk to more people, and get to know them on a more personal level. Which makes the class more fun, if the teacher understands how you act. In my opinion, I haven't hated this week of block scheduling, but I haven't liked it either. The classes I don't like as much are to long, so I think that normal 43 min classes are the perfect length of classes. Those are a few of the many advantages and disadvantages of having a blocked schedule

Would you like to do block scheduling all year round?

Did you like this week of the block schedule?

    • I agree when we switch classes you can talk to more people in a day but in the extended class, you may get to know more about the people you have classes with.

  •  I like block the schedule better, even though the lasses are longer, you also have more time for homework and less classes that day. We use this system in Germany and I think the school week gets boring when you have the same classes every day.

  • I don't like block scheduling. It would confuse me and I like having a set schedule every day. I hated the ISASP schedule. Classes were so long and I can not imagine having to normally sit in a classroom that long. Especially the classes where we just sat and talked, I could not handle that.

  • I think no because I got so bord and i think people were about to fall asleep in class. i hate block schedule and think we shouldn't have it

  • Personally, I hated the block schedule. It made the days feel extremely long. It was also terrible because you could be unlucky and have all your worst classes in one day. I would consider it if I got to switch up my schedule though.

  • I would not like block scheduling because the classes are so long and I do not like that. I think the way we do classes regularly is fine and I like the way it is. It's very annoying that classes have to be so long. I don't think there would be a whole lot of people that would want block scheduling.

    • The classes are too long, and you take more information. Then when you have a test it could have been 2 weeks since you learned something and you could forget which would make you test grade every bad.

  • I personally like the block scheduleing. I think it gives students more time to work on all the homework teachers assign. I think it relieves a lot of stress as well. Students get to have chill time at the end of the classes and also gives students a day off of a class they had the day before.

  • I would rather have what we have now because it makes the day go by fast and shorter classes. It's nice changing it up and having a block schedule once in a while. I dont like how the classes are so long,  there is more work to do.

  • I did not necessarily like the block schedule since class periods were so long. I think it took my focus off of the material we were learning and also made me feel more stressed. Block scheduling year round would not be something I would be a fan of. It may allow more time to get things done, but that can create more stress.
