Should the Government Pay for our college fees?

Should we make the government pay for colleges to be free? No! This website states that data taken shows that there's not enough people to support our economy. We have a worker shortage, and they said the reason is because people are too poor to pay for college and get a higher education. Is that really the reason? So the solution they said to do was make college free and let people get a higher education so they can support our economy, but we also have shortage in areas that don’t require a 4 year college degree.

I believe that if you want to go to college which you think will help you with life in the future then you better work for it. I am saying if something that good helps you why shouldn’t you work hard to pay for college and they have programs that can help you if you are in dire trouble. Also many people know this if they don’t fight/work hard for this and instead just give it to them they won’t appreciate it or try hard at it. Some people will say yes we will, with that small percentage of people we are going to change college to free is that even feasible.

Also where is the government going to get the money because they are already in a lot of debt about a few trillion dollars. You want them to pay for your education when they are already paying for a lot of other things to help improve your lives and the nation. Where do you think they are going to get that money of course if you want it free their only solution is to rise the taxes and then you are going to have to pay high taxes you will still have to pay for it, but they can only tax so much and that would be a temporary solution and in the end the economy would collapse. Also your making the government support you by paying for college with no return.

Why should the government pay when they are already in debt?

Do you believe after reading this that government should pay for our college?

  • Good job overall Victoria! While you commented just enough times, be sure to reply back on three different days. I would also encourage you to reply to people who disagree with your opinion.

  • In an ideal world I think that college should be free or that students should be paid to go there (like it's happening in Denmark), so that high level education wouldn't be an elite thing but could be open to everyone. At the same time since we aren't in an ideal world and the country is already in debt I understand how this could be difficult for the government, because of that I just think that colleges shouldn't be this expensive and there should be more ways to help students that have no disposable income.

  • The government should not pay for college. If you want to go to college you should have to work hard for your goal. However, college is ridiculously expensive! I think the government should help colleges out so it is cheaper to students. If you want more people working, they need the education for it. Something else that could be considered is maybe supporting families under a cetain income so they feel more equipped and have a better chance of attending college. Our government is in severe debt, but I think there should be certain steps taken to decrease our debt, so they can continue to help the people financially and just be a stronger system in general.

  • I don't think the government should pay for college. I agree that if you want to go to college and pursue a career then you need to work for it. The country is already in a lot of debt and it could cause major problems if we didn't have to pay for college. It may sound good for the students but if the country doesn't get enough money, then they may have to raise taxes.

    • Yes that is true and that is why I believe that we shouldn't make the government pay for our college fees. I understand their are poor people but, their is jobs that don't require a college decree and yes it is good to go to college, but their is still jobs without it and their very useful jobs.

  • I agree that college should not be free. If you work hard enough a lot of the cost of college can be paid for with hard work and dedication. This will put more debt on the government than there already is and with the stimulus check of covid, This could cause huge inflation. In the short term, it will sound good but in the long term, it will do more damage.

  • I agree that college shouldn't be free. It would cripple our economy and do us no good. If you really want something your going to have to work the hardest like when people earn acedemic or athletic scholarships. The people that don't want to work that hard show that they don't want to go that far.

  • I don't think that college should be free. I think that you should have to work hard for the things you get in life. I believe that scholarships are good, because you put in the work in highschool and you should be rewarded for doing well. I think that making college free is just another way for far left people to make our economy become more socialist.

  • I dont think that college should be free, but people on both sides of the political aisle agree that college prices are out of control and ned to be reigned back down to a reasonable level.  with the rise in jobs that require higher education, college has become a neccesity but if college becomes free then the government with start to raise taxes on everyone to pay for everyones education.

  • The government should be able to pay for college. They're only in debt because they spend money on unecessary things such as the military. We don't need bilions of dollars going into something not even important right now. No major war is going on and no major threat has been brought upon us. The government also doesn't do a lot to help their citizens. If they did, people wouldn't be struggling or working paycheck to paycheck to prevent being homeless and on the street. Minimum wage is a joke and in order to make a few dollars more than that, you have to get a expensive education you might not even end up using due to jobs decreasing in some fields. Most people don't go to college in order to make that few extra dollars just to pay of thousands of dollars in debt later. After reading this, yes, I do believe the government should pay for our college.
