June 17, 2015, nine African Americans were shot and killed in the church of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal, by a twenty-one-year-old white man. After later research and data collecting, it was found that the shooter had expressed his racist beliefs on the internet along with several pictures of him holding the confederate flag.
These photos angered people all over the United States and sparked a controversy behind the meaning of historical symbols. Since the end of World War 1, the confederate flag has been a popular symbol of US history. The majority of historians today believe that the main cause of WW1 was slavery. This means the confederates separated from the other states because their leaders feared that slavery was soon going to be banned in the nation. The confederates avoided this problem by seceding from the rest of the country. This caused many people to believe that the confederate flag is a symbol of hate and oppression it was the flag flown by those who fought to sustain the legalization of slavery. On the contrary, some people believe it is truly just part of history and honors those who sacrificed their lives in World War 1. Also, many people believe that the flag stands for freedom. They were convinced that slavery wasn’t the only factor in the secession, they believed that it was also a sign of independence, and freedom of being pushed around by the Federal government.
Overall, in my personal opinion, I believe that the confederate flag should not be banned. I believe that it is just a historical symbol that should be respected, and maintained.

Good topic choice and well done overall Cade! I do think you should include more of your thoughts and opinions into your summary. Also, you said the flag has been popular since the end of WWI and it should be the Civil War. I alo think you could expand a bit more on your replies.
I believe that the flag has several meanings. I believe this flag is one that can represent several different things. I think that this flag is just a symbol of freedom, and honor those who fought in the civil war. I don't really think it should be banned, because not often at all do we even see someone flying this flag.
I think that the cofederate flag stands for the freedom of the Southern states because they used it as there own when they secedded from the States. I also do not think it shoud be baaned mainly because it should be known as a symbol of our history. If it is banned people may forget why it happened.
I do not think that the confederate flag should be banned because it should be able to be freely flown because it is a part of our nations history. Many people think that the flag represent bad qualities like racisum, however I think that it represents a symbol of rebeliousness.
I think that the confederate flag represents more then people in small town Iowa realize. Yeah sure it was used by slave owners but that doesn't mean it's racist. It's part of the south's history and we need to realize that. I have no problem with the confederate flag, therefor I don't think it should be banned.
I can't think of any reason why people would be waving around the flag of the loosing side of a war. I also don’t understand why people in other regions other than the south, such as people that live in Iowa, get defensive about the flag. We are nowhere near the south, so why do people get pressed and triggered when someone else says we shouldn’t be waving around confederate flagss? The flag has many meanings and sure, it represents the history of the south. But you need to keep in mind that that history is full of hatred.
I think the confederate flag represents our nation being divided in the 1860s. It was being flown during the Civil War when 11 states, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas broke from the nation to defend the practice of slavery. The Confederate Army lost that war but the confederate flag still acts as a wall that divides America today.
The confederate flag represents our freedom and how we are all as one. I don't think it should be banned, if you don't like the flag, then don't but hating on other people or trying to get it banned even though there are people who do respect it because it represents OUR COUNTRY, if you really strongly hate it that much, then move.
I agree it represented our country in the earlier ages.
The point of the confederate flag is to show how the south came about. It is not inteded to preach about slavery. If you don't like the confederate flag move up north or get over it. People need to stop getting offended about the southern people's past.
