For many students during the school year, especially high school students, weekends are the only time they have to themselves and to spend with family and friends. During the school week students spend hours and hours doing extra school work not at school. Many students spend an average 2 hours every night doing homework. Many students loose sleep, socail life, and family time. Many students are also involved in extra curriculars that keep them very busy after school. Those students then go to school the next day tired, becasue they were up late working on homework after their activities and other normal things that need to happen at home.
Another thing would be that students also have other obligations during the weekends such as, church, family functions, sporting events, etc. When students have homework that was assigned over the wekends students have to chose wether they want to go to the event and not get their homework done or stay home and do their homework and miss out on the event, which they should not have to do.
Many teachers and adults think that students just need to have better time management. That the student just needs to figure out their priorities and make time for their homework. Many adults don't realize that students don't usually just have homework from one or two of their classes but sometimes, homework from all of them. There are many kids who are very good with their time management and figuring out how to get their work done on time and are still very emotionally drained and stressed. After being on this busy schedule all week and cutting down on some of their crucial sleeping time, those students look forward to the weekend knowing they won't have any homework and can just relax.
Another argument that some adults may give is that in the future they may be called into work, or have to finish something on the weekend for their job. They think that having homework on the weekend will help students learn responsiblity and to realize that you may have to do work sometimes over some plans you may have. I can see where they are coming from with this, but also you aren't going to be called into work every single weekend. I just don't think that now is the time to put extra work and stress on these teenagers who still need live the rest of their childhood while they can.
Questions:
1. Do you think teacher's should assign homework on the weekends?
2. Do you think that homework on the weekend's is really teaching teens a life lesson or is more just a burden?

I think that the teachers shouldn't because most highschoolers have jobs or family events like you said and sometimes you can't change plans that happen. I think that the it could help manage time for some highschoolers, and it would be beneficial and help get the material for the class.
Although I don't agree with doing hoemwork on the weekends it can teach many important life lessons. Such as time managment, having a job and family. But as a child I personally don't enjoy doing homework I would rather spend time with friends and family and take a break from the stressful school week.
To be honest, I don't really think that homework should be assigned because it gets hard for some kids to do homework if they have to work or if they don't have the internet at home. I personally think that homework is not teaching us a lesson more on a lesson to stay home and not go out with friends or stay up until 12 am just to do it.
Love the topic and great job overall Timber! +10
I do not think teachers should assign homework on the weekends because I feel like students are stressed enough during the week we should have a little time to our selves and not be so stress and if we forget the teachers jsut get mad that we did not prioritize their class over our mental health.
I do not think that teacher's should assign homework on the weekends for several reasons. I think that if students dedicate a full 5 days per week to education, they should certainly have 2 days for rest or other events not relating to school. If teachers expect students to give 100% during the weekdays, they should not expect them to work on the weekends as well.
Homework over the weekend teaching us a lesson and burden. When we all grow up we will accept the fact we have a job to do outside of the workplace. Most students including myself dont really listen to people telling us to do our homework because it will determine your mental growth and responsibility.
As a student...... no, I dont wanna do homework on my freetime from school. Doing homework is just as bad as us asking our teachers 20 million questions about the same thing, It gets annoying. I dont like homework just like teachers dont like grading tests. If you dont llike grading tests then stop giving them out.
Homework should not be given on the weekends. We spend an average of 8 hours a day at school. The average teen is only awake for about 16 hours. That is half of your day being spent on school. Add an extra hour or two and it just becomes atrocious how much you have to do for school when really you should be learning how the world works socially and spending time with your family. Extra curricular activites also add to the time taken by schools. Homework on the weekends isn't really preparing for work mainly because we really only have one reason to be there. To learn. Jobs give you money for your time. I would definitely rather get paid 9 dollars then learn something for an hour. On top of that there are way too many required classes that are simply irrelevant to a lot of the careers students want to have.
Im torn between yes and no. I agree it takes up a lot of time and definitely emotionally drains you. But at the same time i do think it teaches us valiable lessons and helps us work on out time managment skils for when were older. Still either way i do wish i had more time with friend family and other activities.
