Mass shootings, depression, anxiety, and all things a student thinks about at least once a week. 2 states (Oregon, and Utah)have noticed the importance of mental health in students, changing laws to allow students up to 5 mental health days during a 3 month period. A former student named Derek Evans voiced his approval stating, "Dealing with anxiety throughout high school has always left me tired, exhausted up against some weeks, and the difference one day makes is honestly life-changing." Parents of a student who had died by suicide in 2018 told the AP (Associated Press) that their daughter had been bullied for months and pretended to be sick just to escape it. The senior manager for your and young adult initiatives for National Alliance on Mental Illness stated that "the new laws are a huge win, especially for individuals and families that are affected by mental health conditions."
Do you think our school should have some leeway when it comes to mental health days off? Why or wny not?
I do think we should get at least 2 or 3 days off of school if we are having a serious struggle paying attention do to our mental health.
Do you think that more states should develop some sort of law that allows mental health days off from school?
I do think that states should develop a law that allows students 2-3 mental health days off of school during one 3 month period.

Great topic choice and well done!
I think this is a good idea because school and extracurriculars can get to be seriously overwhelming and hurt your mental state even more than what it might be usually so sometimes you just need to take a breather and regather yourself when things are getting bad. However, I think that people could take advantage of this and just skip school for no reason so I think they'd need to figure out how to regulate something like this well. I think other states should adopt this idea, even for just a couple days a quarter.
I think that it should only be applied to the people that actually need it and not everyone. It could help them a lot. Yes, I think more schools should consider this idea for students dealing with this or any problems they might have at school or at home.
1. - I think our school and the state of Iowa should consider making it so that if you are struggling with mental health issues that you get the break that you need to relax and rebuild because what's the point of going to school if you aren't learning anything if you are depressed and can't focus?
2. - I think the whole U.S. needs to do more research into the effects of mental health of students while they wer trying to learn things. I can't imagine how hard it must be for some people to try to learn and have problems that change the way they are learning. So I think that yes their should be laws in most states if not all about taking a break for mental health issues, and maybe eventually it will become a national law.
Yes, I think they should have some leeway but I Think that people might take advantage of it and use it to skip school.I don't think they need a law but they should bring up awareness on the subject.
I think yes for people that are struggling badly it would be good for them to take a break but for some people that think they have problems no because they do not deserve it. I do think over time yes it should be a thing.
I personally do not believe we should be allotted mental health days from school. All students can miss up to 20 or so school days without having to retake the grade. This is more than enough. Already students abuse these limits, skipping out on school as frequently as possible without getting themselves into serious problems. I completely understand that somedays the weekend isn't enough to catch up mentally. I understand that school can be anxiety inducing, and that it's hard to be here whilst feeling depressed. If students are feeling poor mentally they can take a sick day. Those 20 days are a fallback. They're not like vacation days and shouldn't be used as such. They are for days where you can't be at school because of feeling poor physically or mentally. No, I don't think we should be given more days off.
I agree with everything that was said here. It really does depend on the students current mental state.
I think that our school should have mental health days because some people can not handle there own depression or anxiety and that's why we should have 2-3 mental days but some people don't take it seriously but we should. I think they should because it would help lessen the school shooting and suicide and fewer threats and in the long run, it would be helping the school and the kids go through what they are going through at home or outside of school.
I think we should, anxiety and depression are very serious conditions and they should be handled seriously. However, I feel that when I miss school I become even more stressed and anxious.
Yes, I think they should because there are some students who deal with this on a regular basis and it is very important to take a rest day often to keep them feeling calm and not anxious.
