Should Smoking Cigarettes Be Banned?

Cigarettes are a thin cylinder of cut tobacco rolled in paper for smoking. They can lead to many different consequences that could eventually lead to troubles. There are many reasons why cigarettes are dangerous, but the main one is that it can lead to lung cancer. Cigarettes can also lead to other diseases, for example, heart diseases, and diabetes.

People think that cigarettes should be banned due to the harm they cause. If they smoke in public it could end up harming people around them. Smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths around the world. It is linked to a lot of diseases, lung cancer being among them. Approximately 127,070 lives are lost annually in just the U.S. due to lung cancer. Heart diseases are also another consequence that could end up happening if you smoke. About 695,000 people die of heart disease in the U.S. annually. Another major illness that people can get due to smoking is diabetes. Around 1.5 million people die from this illness per year. Thus, so many people get diagnosed of different illnesses that can be linked to smoking.

There are also other people who think that smoking should not be banned. They think it shouldn't be banned because they should be able to have the freedom to choose wether they want to smoke or not. They believe that since it is their body they should be able to do what they want with it, even if it means harming it. If smoking did get banned it would not just affect the people that are addicted to smoking, but it would also affect the tobacco industry. The tobacco industry is one of the big contributors to our economy. If it got banned many people would lose their jobs and would be jobless.

I think that there should definitely be some restrictions when it comes to promoting cigarettes. I also think that people should not be allowed to smoke in public places where children could be around. Smoking around children for a long time could end up harming them.

    • I feel like people don't understand that even if cigarettes calm them down or whatever, it'll end up harming them more. The government should definently consider putting some restrictions on smoking.

  • In my opinion, cigarettes should be regulated and not banned. I feel this way because I believe that it is your choice if you want to smoke and take the risk of getting health problems. However, I agree that there should be restrictions to get people to choose to not smoke and live a healthier life.

    • I think that cigarettes should definently be banned, but if they cannot get it banned they could at least add restrictions to it.

  • I personally belive that smoking cigarettes should 100% be banned. Smoking in general is already not good for anyone. Cigarettes defintley harms the body over time and I dont even know how people will think that cigarettes are a good idea. Their should defintley be restrictions if they don't flat out ban cigarettes.

    • I agree with you, smoking should be banned. It doesn't only harm the people that smoke it, but also others that are around them.

  • Although smoking is not the greatest thing for you I don't think it needs to be banned. I think that there definitely should be certain restrictions on smoking though. I think that there does need to be an age limit so that younger kids don't get "addicted" at such a young age.

  • I feel like smoking should not be banned because it is a choice and a risk you take, you totally know that its adictive and harmfull, but there should totally be restrictions because young people or others could inhale the harmful smoke and could cause damages to the lungs, specifically if someone has a special condition.

    • I somewhat agree with you. I get that it shouldn't be banned because it's someones choice, but overall it doesn't just harm them. It can be very harmful to others when they are around them.

    • I totally agree with what you said. It causes many problems for people that end up taking the choice to smoke and especially when they end up getting addicted to it.

  • I feel like there should be certain restrictions to cigeretts because they are very addictive and so many people die from smoking. My parents used to smoke and it wasn't fun always smelling like smoke. Im so glad they haven't done it in almost 10 years.
