As of this semester, many colleges have been shutting down their programs because of the new COVID-19 variant. Some schools didn’t even start back up at the beginning of the year. When COVID-19 first began, nobody knew what was going to happen. Schools began to shut down and people were at a loss and confused. For students, it seemed like a long summer, but for parents and staff it worried them and what would happen to the education system.
The human body was designed for social interaction and studies have shown that “people who have satisfying relationships with family, friends and their community are happier, have fewer health problems, and live longer.” As schools begin to shut down students feel the loss of connection to peers. Sometimes, students only come to school to socialize with their friends. As more schools close, it is predicted that students' academics will drop and the health of teenagers will become poor with the loss of human connection. Also, face-to-face learning keeps all other distractions away and allows for a connection between the student and the teachers instead of the student and a screen.
On the other hand, many people would claim that online learning is better and ends up more beneficial. Contrary to the studies done about-face to face learning, there have been other studies stating that “ 80% of organizations believe their use of digital learning will remain the same, increase or decrease only slightly as restrictions on live training ease.” Meaning that some plan on staying online just because it was helpful. Some say it is less stressful and more self-paced but I think that it has too many distractions.
In the end, I think that we should still be going face to face, and allowing students the option to go to school. I think that COVID should not be treated any differently than the flu. If you feel ill you stay home until you recover, that is how it works. I think there are many strong opinions on both sides, but I don’t think COVID should change anything else or shut down any more schools.
1. Do you think schools should be shutting down again?

Good topic choice and well written summary Carson! I do think you could have added another questions. The issue is that you only replied one time. Commenting is worth 30 points. As you come in to my WIN almost every day, this shouldn't be the case.
Based on my own experience and other's, I don't think schools should be shutting down and going fully online. It's very hard to do any type of homework with distractions at home, not having the resources to actually do the homework, and having no motivation to do the homework. School shutting down also affected many people's mental health as well, which isn't a good thing at all.
No I don't believe that schools should be shutting down again because then we would be going backwards from where we started out two years ago at this time when everything closed down. I think the only way to get through it is if you sick stay home, but if you not go about your day.
No! I do not think schools should shut down again. I think it is a waste of time and a waste of education time. I think that COVID is really never going away. We have to learn to live with it and treat is as a normal virus. I think that schools shutting down really won't help because obviously the first time it didn't go away, so what makes this time different?
I believe that schools should stay open because of the benfit of students. Personally, my mental health took a huge toll during the forst COVID outbreak, and it was very hard for me to learn online. When I am physically at school, I stay more focused during classes because I know that it is time to learn and focus, but at home, there are many distractions that keep us from getting school work done.
I do not think schools should start shutting down again because like you said going to school is benefial for human interaction. If schools shut down and went to being online I do not think and students would actually care about doing their school work.
N, I don't believe schools should be shutting down. I think if people get vaccinated if they want or wear masks if they want they can. These precautions will help them, and if they want to they can. Although, if others don't want to they don't have to. Ultimately, it's a personal choice.
I think not, like you said, it makes the teens health decrease over time when they have zero social interactions in person. I agree with you when you say that we should have an option to go to school in person or online. I prefer online because I learn better. Online, there is so many distractions and sometimes even I have troubles focusing on the task on hand.
I do not think that schools should shut down because everyone has a hard time doing school virtually. Since you are at home, you ahve different distractions and you also might have different responsibilities. If schools were to shut down I think a lot of people would just stop doing there school work.
I don't think schools should shut down because it will be very hard to maintain. I had a hard time keeping up on homework when school shut down. School is better in person and there are many negative side effects to going online.
