Should schools be required to have armed security guards?

A large issue that has swept the nation into an uproar is the terrible school shootings that have occurred in the past couple of years. Now people ask if we should implement gun control to protect our kids. Most pro-gun control people ask for much, much stricter regulations on guns, while some would of the more radical would like guns to be outright banned. Many people disagree with this, and instead, believe that schools should require armed security guards instead. This is because it is more of a "middle ground" solution instead of having to go full out one solution or the other.

Implementing gun control would mean having to go through the long process of creating bills and laws, getting the needed signatures, new foreign policies. It would also require the long and resource-draining process of getting citizens to turn in the registered weapons they already own. All of this would take years and a large amount of money. On the other hand, many argue that installing more security guards at things such as schools, hospitals, etc. would instead be an easier solution. By doing this more people could be given the opportunity of a job, and students and families would feel safer going to school. Although a larger con coming from this solution is that communities would have raised taxes or the school would have a smaller budget because of having to pay for another job.

Personally, I think that implementing security guards would have more of an effect than gun control because when you totally outlaw something, people will just find a way to get it anyways. I also feel safer with a security guard. I think that as a country we’re stuck spinning our wheels, either: Gun control or no gun control. I think that the security guard solution is a way we can find a middle ground and attempt to make some progress.

Do you think that gun control or security guards would have more of an effect on school safety?

Do you feel safer with a security guard in school?

Do you think that implementing security guards is a good middle ground solution to the largely debated gun control issue?

  • Good topic choice and well done overall! Be sure to comments three different days.

  • I think having security guards is a good idea. We have it in other public places like airports and malls. Schools are important and it's the youth of our world. We should protect them. I personally would feel safer with security guards in our school. I also think it's a step in the right direction to implement this.

  • I do think that adding a security guard and gun control would have an effect on school safety. I would feel way safer if there was a security guard, but they have to show up everyday. I think that implementing security could be a possilbe solution to the largely debated gun control issue.

  • I do think that adding armed security guards in schools would decrease the amount of violence in schools. I personally would feel a lot safer in school if there were a consistent security guard in the building. I think that introducing security guards would be a good way to decrease gun violence without having to put heavy restrictions on guns.

  • I also think that we should have security guards at our school instead of just banning all guns for the whole U.S because people would still find ways to get guns. I also feel like students would feel safer at school if we know we had someone guarding it.

  • I think we should have security guards in our schools because I think it would tak a lot of viloence and vaping issuses away from our schools. It would be a lot safer if we had one or multiple in our schools. Yes, It would be a big problem salover because then kids won't make as much stupid decision in school.

  • I definetly think that having armed secuirty gaurds at schools woud darasticly improve safety, I also think that at least some schools should try it out and see if it would work. I definetly think that schools should have security gaurds to improve their ovrall safety.

  • I think that schools should not be required to have security gaurds. I think that is should be an option for school like it is now. The security gaurds to me would not help much more with the shootings. In our town it would not make sense because we have such a little school and we do a lot of drills. In bigger citys maybe but not in our school.

  • i think that most schools should have a security gaurd just in case of any problems in the school haopens.if there were gaurds there would be less shooting and it would make any of the students feel safe

  • I feel that there should be an armed security guard at every school. I do not know if it would make me feel safer because I don't feel unsafe as it is but I do feel that it will give parents a sense of security when they send their children to school. I think that it would most likely lower school shootings a bit.
