Should Schools be Online or Remain Open?

Schools all over the U.S are continuing to open, even with the situation at hand. Every school district is taking different approaches to assure the safety of their students, yet some schools are not taking any precautions at all. Our school has taken several precautions like the required face masks and one way hallways. Although it is a struggle the school district thinks that it will help. The question is, is it really working or are we wasting our time? The situation keeps changing and what we know about the virus constantly changes. So should the school just go online to make teachers' and students' lives simpler? I personally think that at this point schools should remain open unless there is a sudden spike of cases. One to one learning is easier in person than online. Therefore I feel like more students tend to participate in a classroom more than in a zoom meeting. Plus our school is trying to do everything in their hands to assure our safety day to day. If we ever go online many kids will not participate because they don’t have access to the internet at home. Many others would not participate for the simple fact that nobody is actually enforcing them to do something. At school the environment for learning is more controlled than when a kid is alone at home. If we go online there are gonna be many struggles that we will be facing for those reasons I think at the moment it is better to remain in school.

Are the precautions that we are taking making a difference?

Should schools remain open or be fully online?

  • Good topic choice and well done overall Paola! Be sure to reply back to students a bit more and on three different days next time.

  • I think they are making a difference I think it is helping keep us safe, and able to go back to school. I think schools should remain open because so many people learn better in person than online. I am one of these students. If everything was online like you said some people don't have internet, no one will enforce it because their parents are working, and a lot of students will sleep in. I think we should remain in school.

  • I think going hybrid is a great precaution and it ensures for the most part that we are socially distanced and that we can always maintain a distance with eachother. I think schools should remain open because it is so hard to completely teach a lesson and understand it when you can not see or talk to the teacher in person.

  • I think the precautions we and other schools are taking are huge towards stopping the spred.  I personally learn alot better in person besides online and I bet alot of other people are the same. If we went all online though there would be way less risk of a possible spred. I still think that if we want to maintain the best possible learning enivroment we should stay in person.

  • I think that school should be online because even if we only have half capacity, I go to practice with a lot of people that were in school the day before. If someone was at school with Covid, and they around people on my team, I would be exposed by going to practice.

  • I think that the precautions we are taking as a district are making a difference. If you look at other schools in the state who haven't taken these precautions, you'd see that the spread in their districts is insane. In our district, there have not been any outbreaks in the school as of yet, and I think our strict rules are to blame for that. I understand how people are upset with the severity of our rules, but in the end it is keeping us all safe and in school and that's what matters the most. I think that schools should stay open as long as they are taking measures to insure the safety of the students. If students at those schools won't follow the rules to stay safe, then I think that school should go online. It is a team effort to keep the schools up and running and if students can't follow the rules, then the schools need to shut down.

  • i feel like if we have mask on we dont need one way hallways becasue it makes it hard to get to some of my classes and its just super annoying being late, i feel like as long as we have mask on we dont need the hallway rule. yes this does allow the corona to stop spredding a little bit more its just hard for the kids that have to go all the way across the school just to get to there classes.

    • The one way hallways are just another precaution to assure our safety. Of course it has complicated things, but at this point everything is complicated. It is very hard to get to classes but it's better to be safe than sorry.

  • I really don't think that us going back to school is safe but I did miss it so personally I was a little excited to go back. But there is going to be a spike of cases, it's inevitable at this point. And I'm not just worried about us getting sick, honestly I'm more worried about me passing it on to my grandparents or someone older or with a pre existing condition who the virus can do more harm to. I think that this is a bad decision, but we have been making bad decisions throughout this whole pandemic. But there is really nothing I can do about it so I guess I'll just hope for the best.

    • Yes throughout this pandemic our state has made some questionable decisions that are certainly debatable. Even though this decisions were made the school is trying to work it's hardest to slow the spread of the virus. Of course it is inevitable to stop, but at least we can say we tried our best.
