Same sex marriage is a heavy topic for many Americans. While being legal in all 50 states, some Americans believe that same sex marriage is wrong and should be illegal. On June 26, 2015, all bans on same sex marriage were struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court, legalizing it all across America.
The Obergefell vs. Hodges case in June of 2015 legalized same sex marriage. The plaintiffs in both cases argued that the states’ statues went against the Fourteenth Amendment. They believe that it went against the Fourteenth Amendment, because of the Equal Protection Clause and Due Process Clause. In all cases, the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, which reversed and held all bans of same sex marriage across all states. States could not refuse to recognize same sex marriage for equal protection and due process.
Although same sex marriage is legal, there is still heavy discrimination against it. Whether it’s due to religious beliefs or just not liking it, many people do not approve. I believe that, even though it may be against your religion, not everyone has the same religion as you. In fact, some people don’t believe in any religion at all. You may not approve, but that does not mean you get to discriminate against people for something they cannot control.
You cannot control who loves who, so why not just let them be happy? No one deserves to be discriminated against based on who they want to marry and who they fall in love with. Unless you are part of that relationship, it does not concern you nor your opinion.
Do you think same sex marriage should be legal? Explain.
Do you support same sex marriage?
Does religion affect attitudes towards same sex marriage?

Well done Alissa! Be sure to reply on three different days next time.
I personally am okay with it for the most part only because I know a happily married gay couple; however, it is against my religion, therefore I was rasied to not be okay with it, but it's the 21st century and it's legal therefore you might as well be okay with it. I belive that religion has a huge part to play in same sex marriage. Not all religions allow same sex marriage and thats perfectly ok.
I'm proud that even though you were raised being told it was wrong, you realized that it's okay.
I think it should be legal yes because in my opinion it makes no difference if you marry a same sex person or not.
yes I support it because you cant chose with you you fell in love... it is how it is and no one should judge you for being happy!
I think the religion people should wake up those are the christian they say love everybody like yourself so especially they should support it because God made everybody how they are and its good they should stop judging people because of stuff like that.
I agree, it doesn't make a difference no matter who you marry.
It's silly that "should same sex marrage be legal" is even a question that people ask. People are going to love whoever they want. I do, in fact, support same sex marrage. Religion plays a massive role in discrimination against same sex couples or even anybody of the LGBTQ community at that. The Pope refuses to support same sex marrage, and people use the bible to tell same sex couples that they are sinning.
I agree, whom someone loves should not be anyone elses concern.
I agree with you that same-sex marriage should be 100% legal. There is no reason that two people shouldn’t be able to marry each other just because they happen to be the same gender. It doesn’t matter if your bible or other sacred writing states that only men and women can marry each other. Not everyone believes in your religion, so why push it on to others? Homosexuality isn’t an “abnormal” thing, nor is it an unnatural thing. Homosexuality has actually been observed many times before in the natural world. In fact, both penguins and giraffes, have shown homosexual tendencies between males by caressing each other’s necks while ignoring the females. Just because you don’t agree with gay marriage doesn’t mean no one should have the right to marry who they want.
Angies I completely agree with you. Just because some religion doesn't accept or approve of same-sex marriage, doesn't mean that it should be illegal. Not everyone believes in the same things.
I personally think that same sex marriage should be legal becasue it's not hurting anyone else. I think everyone should get the same chance to marry whether it's a guy or girl. I think whatever makes people happy they should do. In some cases religion might have effects on same sex marriage, but just becasue a certain religion says its bad dosent mean it should be illgeal.
