Smoking in public? Should it be banned, this topic is on the uprise in the online commuinity. Anyone who has a relative who smokes in general weather is be inside or outside, have you ever thought about the affects it's having on your health.  They say even breathing in cigarette smoke can increase a individuals chance of a heart attack. Back in the good ole days smoking is what all the cool kids did it was a trend everyone thought it was fun and cool. But not knowing the consequences that would progress as they puffed on each cigarette.

Studies show that a nationwide ban on smoking in public could potentially stop as many as 154,000 heart attacks each year. And being exposed to 2nd hand smoke is almost just as dangerous as smoking. Many young men and women who work in bars and entertainment would benefit from this ban the most considering that smoking is often found in bar's,clubs, and any sort of public entertainment. Studies show that smoking makes the blood in our bodies thicker and almost sticky which leads to blood clots, which can lead to death. Many thing one way to stop the smoking is by raising the taxe's on all tobaco products.

So far this ban has been spread across 32 of the 50 states in the U.S. And they are already showing huge benifits in the health of the public. here are some charts showing how smoking can affect the lungs and number of heart attacks and deaths related to smoking.

  • Great topic choice and well done on your summary! You could have replied back quite a few more times.

  • Yes, I agree that public smoking should be banned. There is absolutely no point in smoking. It just hurts you and other people around. Second-hand smoking is a big problem and apparently causes a lot of problems. I would raise the crap out of cigarette taxes. It would keep the people from buying more, and also you would get a lot of money out of it. Yes, I do think this will make people stop smoking in public. They would probably get angry with the government, but that is ok.

  • I am wondering would this increase in tax would affect vapes and chewing tobacco? These products are known to be bad for your health, but these products are not known to have negative effects on those who are around people using these tobacco products.

  • I do have a relative that smokes. She has smoked as long as I can remember.  I do not agree with this ban. If I understand what you said in the article this ban is not really a ban. This would just make it so the taxes were higher on products containing tobacco.

  • Smoking should be banned because it not only affects the people that are doing the smoking but the people that a near the people smoking. I think that the smoking should be banned but I also think that this could lead to issues like when they tried to ban alcohol in the 1900's.

    • I think the same thing, taking away something like that would more than likely cause the same "riots" they had back then with alcohol. This is a very good point.

  • No, even if it does go through many people would protest and others would just keep living life and smoking in public. just because you ban somthing its not going to completely stop it from happening and that goes for almost everything.

  • No, its not fare even if its making numbers die down the people who already have adictions to this stuff are going to find cheaper routes to get what they want and those routes could be very much so more dangerous than just normal cigarettes.

  • I personally agree with this ban because it would stop second hand smoke and the influance of smoking on kids. but this would also affect the people who do smoke and you would have many people voting against you.

  • My grandmother used to smoke until she passed away she would smoke where ever when ever except when my and my siblings would show up because she knew what she was doing was wrong and she didnt want us in the same situation.
