Physical Education is something that is required for every student at Harlan Community to take every single year in high school, but is it really necessary? The CDC explains that taking some sort of physically educating class provides cognitive content and helps develop motor skills. There are so many benefits to taking a PE class, but there are also a few disadvantages. For example, some students want to take more academic classes and have an academic waiver, excluding them from PE, so that they can take far more classes. But in order to get that academic waiver, a student cannot have any study halls throughout the school day.
Benefits to having a PE class include: increasing every student's level of physical activity, improving their overall focus abilities in classes, and enhancing their grades and even standardized test scores, all according to the CDC. Taking a physical education class does not affect a student’s academic achievement negatively in any way. On the other hand, students who do not want to partake in a PE class, who are in other sports, find it ridiculous that they don’t have the choice whether they want to take that class or not.
Personally I think that PE is a nice class to take when you have a busy schedule and need a break, but I don’t think it should be forced upon all students. It’s important for everyone to be somewhat physically active for their health, but enforcing that in schools and not allowing students to opt out, unless they choose to have absolutely no study halls, gets to be a little over the board crazy. I think a physical education class should be very highly recommended to everyone, but it should not be mandatory in schools.
Do you think PE should be mandatory?
Do you have an academic waiver?
Do you like PE?

I can see your point, but then again most students are in sports already.
I think that there should be a basic mandatory PE class. It is not asking much of the students, and it is giving them exercise during the day, so they don't have to get themselves to do it. I also like PE because it is a period where I don't have to learn.
I agree that it isn't asking much of the students, but there are people who are physcially active that would rather take advantage of another academic class instead of a PE class.
I think that having a pe in the day should be mandatory for any student. Getting excersise by yourself and hard to do without getting yourself to do it. Having a pe can get you excersise so you dont have to get yourself to do it yourself and have someone there to guide you.
I think at least a basic PE class should be mandatory because everybody need to exersise. It think it would improve physical and maybe mental health in American schools all over. Then more people would go out to do sports and schools would probably have enough players in every sport.
I think PE wouldn't change the amount of people participating in sports because we haven't seen an uprise here and it is mandated at our school.
I personally think the opposite. Without given the choice of taking a PE class, students feel forced into things, and therefore, don't have fun with it.
I do not think that pe should be mandatory for the students who are in sports because pe and a sport puts a lot on the students and their bodies need to rest. I do think that the kids who are not in sports should take a pe class to get some physical activity.
I think some sort of physical education class should be mandated in schools so kids are allowed to have (I don't want to say free period) some sort of fun duuring school. I personally enjoy PE classes like Strength and Conditioning because it allows me to burn energy and do better for myself.
In my opinion you should take P.E if you are doing sports or you are someone that wants to stay fit. Some people just have different hobbies but there are just some people that are extremely unhealthy and they should be mandated to take it.
