Physical Education is something that is required for every student at Harlan Community to take every single year in high school, but is it really necessary? The CDC explains that taking some sort of physically educating class provides cognitive content and helps develop motor skills. There are so many benefits to taking a PE class, but there are also a few disadvantages. For example, some students want to take more academic classes and have an academic waiver, excluding them from PE, so that they can take far more classes. But in order to get that academic waiver, a student cannot have any study halls throughout the school day.
Benefits to having a PE class include: increasing every student's level of physical activity, improving their overall focus abilities in classes, and enhancing their grades and even standardized test scores, all according to the CDC. Taking a physical education class does not affect a student’s academic achievement negatively in any way. On the other hand, students who do not want to partake in a PE class, who are in other sports, find it ridiculous that they don’t have the choice whether they want to take that class or not.
Personally I think that PE is a nice class to take when you have a busy schedule and need a break, but I don’t think it should be forced upon all students. It’s important for everyone to be somewhat physically active for their health, but enforcing that in schools and not allowing students to opt out, unless they choose to have absolutely no study halls, gets to be a little over the board crazy. I think a physical education class should be very highly recommended to everyone, but it should not be mandatory in schools.
Do you think PE should be mandatory?
Do you have an academic waiver?
Do you like PE?

Great topic choice that hasn't been done this year at least(+5)! You did a great job on your summary and commenting.
I think PE should be mandatory for at least a semester, just so kids can get physical activity and have fun. I like PE beacuse it makes my day a little bit more energetic and fun. Not all kids feel this way but its good to have PE.
I do think that PE should be mandatory to an extent. I do see the importance of making children get some physical activity, especially in the growing age of technology. But, for those who are already in sports it does not make sense to force them to do it. I personally do enjoy PE, but I don't feel like I should HAVE TO do it since I am in sports year round.
I understad the law to an extent, but I think that if you are doing a sport that you shouldent have to take a PE class. That time could be spent taking another accidemic class or taking astudy hall.
Yes because Physical Education is good for the body and gets more movement. Some people like to get exercise. Some people don’t like to exercise. I like PE because it makes you do Physical activity, and makes you do something.
I understand that to an extent, but for those who already exercise on their own and participate in sports shouldn't be required to do moreif they'd rather have a study hall or another academic class.
For me, PE has never been mandatory. I have had an academic wavier since freshman year and they are really nice. I already work out in the mornings and I feel like I already have enough classes that stresses me out. I feel like the school should not require something like PE, especially when most kids are in a physical activity outside of school.
I agree with you completely, if we didn't have to worry about fitting PE into our schedule, students who want more academic classes can.
I think that PE classes should not be mandatory for students that are in a sport because they are doing a lot of excercise during their sport. However, I do think PE classes should be mandatory for students not in a sport so they are still getting some excercise id they don't do any at home.
I think PE should be mandatory because kids need to get exercise. Kids might not get a lot of activity at home, so I think it is important for them to at least get it somewhere. Especially if they have to sit at desk all day long.
