Should Minimum Wage be Raised?

As of right now the minimum wage for workers across the United States is 7.25. Many people believe that the minimum wage should be raised to around $10.00, while some people believe that it should be raised to $15.00 an hour. Not all states follow the federal minimum wage. States such as Arizona and Alaska have changed the minimum wage. Alaska's minimum wage is at $10.34 and Arizonas is at $12.15. Many states still follow the federal minimum wage. 21 states still have the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. Many states do not believe in only paying the average worker minimum wage.

I personally believe that it would be ok if the minimum wage was raised to something like 9 or 10 dollars an hour. I think it would be ridiculous if it was raised to something like  $15 an hour. Many businesses would struggle if they had to pay all of their workers $15 an hour. Then you would have to make it fair by raising other workers wages to make it fair. I also think it would be ok if they raised it just a little because you can not make a living by making just $7.25 an hour. There is no way you would be able to live a decent life. I think it would be ok if they just raised it by a few dollars and kept it at something realistic. I do not think that it is realistic for them to raise it to something like 15 or 16 bucks an hour because many businesses, mainly small businesses, would probably go under and not be able to continue doing what they were doing.

Do you think the minimum wage should be raised?

If so, what do you think it should be raised to?

    • I agree that we need to try to keep up with inflation.

  • I agree that if the minimum wage did get raised then it should only be by a few dollars so it doesn't change drastically right away. It would be nice to make more money but probaly is not the best idea because then the prices of things would then get higher as well.

  • i believe that the miniimun wage should be raised to 9 or 10 dollars it is an easy wage to save and if you are responisble you can live of of that wage

    • I agree that if it is raised it should only be a small amount.

  • I think that minimum wage could be raised a little bit but not to something like 15 dollars. If minimum wage was raised to 15 dollars an hour then businesses in small towns would have a harder time making a profit because 15 dollars adds up quickly in small towns. If it was raised by too much then the price of the products the businesses have would go up in order for them to stay open. Overall it could be raised a little more and benefit people a lot.

    • I agree that it could be raised but only a little.

  • I think that minimum wage should be raised because there are people who are living off of minimum wage and that isn't enough to buy groceries, pay bills, and moslty pay for college.

  • I think it should be raised even if its a little bit. Going from $7.25 or $15 an hour is a big jump. We should slowly raise it until we get to a comfortable place, not just jump the gun. I don't have an excact thing that it should be raised to, but around $9 or $10 maybe. I'm not super educated on this topic so I cannot make an educated guess.

  • I think the minimum wage should be raised slightly but nothing extreme like 12 to 15 dollars. Almost all small businessess would be gone and just because we raise the minumum wage doesn't mean everything else price wise is gona stay the same. Everything else would be raised just as much and it would do any good except make everything more expensive.

  • I agree that it would be fine to raise minimum wage a little bit. Raising it to $15 an hour would be too much of a jump in too little time. If we were to raise the minimum wage, we should do it slowly so it doesn't change so abruptly.
