should ISASP be administered

Should isasp test be issued at schools?

ISASP (Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress) was developed in 1935 and has been given to 3-11 grade students in the category of mathematics, reading, and biology. ISASP was developed to meet the requirements federal every student Success Act (ESSA). Witch is a U.S law passed in December 2015 to hold students accountable for how students learn and achieve.

ISASP is a state standardized test that mostly everybody took here recently and most people did not like taking it. I have heard teachers say that they don't like giving the ISASP test. I personally don't like ISASP testing and think that it should not be given at school. Some people might argue this and say isasp is good and that it is a way for teachers to see what you know and what you don't. People might also say that it is good because if people score high the school gets more state funding. I completely agree but I feel that our knowledge can be tested besides something other than a large state standardized test.

ISASP is a test that a lot of people get stressed over, including teachers and other school staff. Isasp gets teachers stressed because they have to initiate a full online test and technology doesn't always work the best. Teachers also have to make sure that there are no posters, pictures, or lettering on the walls that could help any student in any way. Isasp also stresses out students because there are 3-5 important tests that are in a week and if they don't score proficient then they lose more privileges when they get further on in high school. Isasp also stresses out other school staff like computer techs because during the testing a lot of things can go wrong with the computer or the app that ISASP is on.

Questions:

Do you think that ISASP should be administered?

What are some other ways the state can test our knowledge?

Do you think open campus should be based on ISASP?

  • I think that when we take ISASP the school only cares how we do for their funding. They want a higher funding due to the higher scores. I understand why we test and I believe it is the reason our school is slightly above average, but I think that they are mentally draining for students and sometimes causes too much stress within the school.

    • i agree and feel that the school funding should not be based on students that it should be based on the teachers

  • I think that ISASP are overhyped and that it is just mentally terrible for students. They are pretty much pointless. I think that open campus should be based off of something else that we are actually taught instead of just the random things that we werent taught.

  • I personally don't think that open campus should depend on your score for ISASP. I think that is good that we take them, but they do get long and some kids are not good at taking test, so open campus for them is hard to get because it is based on your score.

  • I don't think an open campus should depend on how good you do on ISAPS. I do think that it is good taking them so they know what classes students should be in. Although, they suck doing and they are really long.

  • I feel like ISASP is a good idea to have. Just to make sure people are at grade level. I feel like the school should find a way to make it less stressful. I'm not completely sure how that would happen, but I feel like that is the main problem that students have with ISASP.

  • I get why we have these tests but honestly, I think that schools just like them to show off numbers and get more money. I think it is really unnecessary how stressful they are. I think states could go off of your actual school grades. I don't think open campus should be based of off isasps because not everyone is a good test taker but could be very smart.

  • I think that it is fine if they administer the test but they do not have to be so long they only need to be 10 questions. I think since the test are so long students do not take it seriously so the test scores are not gonna be efficient.

    • I agree, with the test not being counted for a grade not everybody tries

  • I believe that ISASPS are a poor way of assessing what a group of students actually learned. Since It has no affect on their actual letter grade, some students just click through. I believe that having an optional test for students would go over so much better. If we were offered a reward for taking this test (more than just a cookie after english), like a day off, then So many more students would want to take it. I don't think ISASP should determine whether or not you get open campus. I think it should function like other extracirriculars. If you have an F, you dont get to go out.
