Increasing the roadways speed limits could ultimately make roadways safer. When the majority of traffic is traveling at the same speed roads are safer. The interstate speed limit is 70 MPH, but most cars travel around 80 MPH. Even though it’s just a 10 MPH difference it causes those driving 70 to feel as if they are being ran over.
Road accidents are very few times caused by speed alone. In fact, those who try to keep a speed at 70 MPH are more likely to cause a crash than those going 80 MPH due to flow of traffic speeds. Raising speed limits would cause for a less desire to speed and cops would pull fewer people over.
Personally I feel that speed limits should be raised, not only on the interstates but on highways as well. In the long run, it will keep people safer and traffic flowing better. In South Dakota speed limits on highways are raised to 65 mph and on interstates 80 mph. I feel the flow of traffic flows more smoothly thought South Dakota than it does through Iowa.
Do you think that speed limits should be increased if so how much?
Do you follow the speed limit all the time?

Good topic choice and great job replying to student comments! I do think your summary is brief overall and could be expanded on a bit.
I think the intown steets are fine but on the interstate they should be bumped up to 80-85. That is the speed of flow of traffic anyways on the interstate. No, I do not always follow the speed limit, not one person follows the speed limit. Only time you need to follow the speed limit is when a cop is around.
I think that the 25 MPH speed limit in town should remain the same. I think tows are too populated and have too many children running around to increase those. On the other hand, I think that it wouldn't hurt to raise the highways up to around 60-65. I think any higher may get too fast. I usually drive around the speed limit or 5 above.
I do think the speed limit should be increased on the interstate and should now be 80mph instead of 70mph since most people drive that speed. Also I think on the highways it should atleas be increased to 60mph since 55mph is not that fast. Personally I go over the speed limit because it is not that high of a speed.
I think that the speed limits should be changed on the highway, but not by a lot. Maybe raising it to around 60 or 65 because people often drive that speed despite the speed limit. I don't think that it should be rasied any higher because at that point it's way more dangerous. Personally, I drive around 5 over.
If they were to change the speed limit on the highway, I don't think I would mind if it was raised to 60 or 65 considering most people drive that speed anyways. However if the raised the speed way higher I am not sure how I would feel about it. To be honest, I don't know if a lot of high schoolers old cars would be reliable going that speed.
I think that the speed limits should be increased up to 60- 65 MPH. Sometimes truck drivers don’t have the speed to get up a hill with a lot of weight behind them. That can cause some problems for the people behind them. Plus it gets you from one place to another faster. Some cars can’t go as fast as new cars can, but the speed could be 50 - 80 MPH on the interstate. On the hiways, it would be different. The speed could be between 60 to 65 MPH.
Your reasons for raising the speed limit make sense and now I do feel as if it would be better to raise limit because speed to get places faster and raising it would allow them to not break the law in doing so. It would give people less time to slow down to an obsticle like a car crash or a deer though.
I do not think that they should be change because of the possible chances of drunk drivers of any age, people on their phones, and counting number of reckless drivers. Well, not entirely, I drive 5 miles above the speed limit as the law says.
This proves that the main cause of car crashes is not speeding, but other factors like you stated. I do not think raising the speed limit 5-10mph would cause the rate of car crashes to increase.
