Should Immunity be Recognized in Place of the Vaccine?

Whether or not you should get vaccinated is a very hot topic all over the world right now. Right now people are beginning to require proof of vaccination before they will serve you in restaurants, allow you to work in businesses or hospitals, and let you attend concerts or broadway shows. But what about the people who have already had COVID-19? Should they also be allowed to attend these things?

I have been doing research on the vaccine's protection against Covid vs. how natural immunity will protect you from Covid. One reason people think that immunity should not replace the vaccine is because they believe it doesn’t protect you as well. One of the largest Clinics in Israel did a study with the world respected Mayo Clinic and they stated that a vaccinated person who has never had Covid is almost 13 times more likely to contract Covid than a person who has already been infected naturally with Covid. The vaccinated people in this study were vaccinated in either January or February 2021.

Some people think that immunity should not count because they say the immunity won’t last as long as the vaccine. How long the vaccine will last is another debate itself that I won’t go into.. The antibodies that come from natural immunity will continue to improve in your body over time, protecting you from future sickness and keeping your body from contracting the virus again. I think that this shows that people who have had covid should be able to have their antibodies recognized in place of the vaccine. There is good evidence that it really is a good protection from the virus.

To me it doesn't make sense to only allow vaccinated people to do certain things and not people with antibodies. I think that natural immunity should be recognized in place of the vaccine because it has similar benefits. It is unfair to not be allowing these people to do things just because they haven’t been vaccinated when they are very similar in protecting you from Covid.

Do you think that natural immunity should be recognized in place of the vaccine?

For people who haven’t had COVID and don’t want the vaccine, what should they do to be allowed in these places? Should they have to do anything at all?

  • Good topic choice and super job Mabel!

  • I think natural immunity should be recognized just as much as the vaccine.  You stated that a vaccinated person who has never had Covid is almost 13 times more likely to contract Covid than a person who has already had it. So why shouldn't it be expected in places where you need vaccines. I also feel like it should be all up to you, if you think you're healthy enough to go without then go for it. If you want to get the vaccine, wear a mask or think natural immunity is enough for you. It all up to you in the end, you know your body more than anyone else's.

  • I believe that the human body was made to handle, and fight of bacteria, and sicknesses. I believe a healthy body is able to easily fight of COVID-19. I don't think that the vaccine should be forced, therefore it is important for business' to realize they will probably never be able to force everyone to get it. *AS of now*

  • I definetly think that the vaccine should not be required and only the people that want to get it should get it. If people dont care about getting the covid vaccine then that is their choice not someone elses. I also do not think that the unvacinated people should have to do anything at all.

    • I agree that the unvaccinated people shouldn't have to do anything at all because it was their own choice to not get vaccinated.

  • I think that it shouldn't be put in place of the vaccine but should allow some more open rules and not as many requirements. Because although I don't think there should be anything that requires you to be vaccinized. The people that have natural immunity should be open to doing anything if they believe that they won't get covid.

  • I think that businesses should recognize natural immunity in place of the vaccine because it does just about the same protection if not a better job. I think that people who haven't gotten covid and don't want the vaccine shoulld be recognized the same because otherwise these businesses are discriminating which isn't going over to well in today society.

  • While Antibodies attained prior to the distribution of the vaccine should be recognized in some light, It should not be marketed as an alternative. That will just insentivise people to go out and catch covid (a risky play) instead of just getting any of the FREE, PUBLICLY AVAILABLE vaccines. People who don't have antibodies and dont want to get vaccinated should just stay home. It's clear they don't care about public health and saftey.

  • yes because nuatural immunity is stronger than the shot.  I think they should be able to go to these places because they know the risk they are taking and they are the ones that may get covid.  In worse case they should get tested that day to prove that they don't have it.  But they should be able to go too.

    • The card system would be something to try for immune people because they are doing it for vaccinated people. I agree that there will still be some spreading of covid because we haven't figured out a perfect way to stop it yet.
