This topic is debatable and could go either way. In my opinion, I believe that people should be fined based on their income. I think that making everyone pay the same price for a crime is senseless and should change. For example, if someone was caught for running a red light, they could be fined up to $500. For the people in the upper class, this wouldn't damage their bank account at all, but for the people in the lower class, this could possibly be their entire paycheck for the week. This is one of the reasons why I believe this should change. Not fining people based on their income leads to lower class people being in debt and in jail, while upper class people could continue to break the law and pay the fine with no problem. I think that fines based on incomes should only apply to traffic violations and not other crimes because it might cause an increase in the crime rate. I think that the government should take this into consideration, especially during this pandemic when some people are losing their jobs and struggling to pay bills and provide for their family.
Do you think people should be fined based on incomes? Why or Why Not?
Do you think if fines were based on incomes it would cause an increase in crimes?
Should this just apply to traffic violations only or to traffic violations and other misdemeanor crimes, like assault?

Good topic choice and you did a good job replying to students. Your summary is focused on your thoughts which is what I want but be sure to explain what your topic is about and the issues surrounding it before you just jump in to your thoughts.
I think that -at least in the majority of crimes- people should NOT be fined based on income. We live in a great country where people get to work less or more based on the life that they want. If you want to go to college to get a degree and put 40+ hours into a job to try and work for financial comfort, there's nothing stopping you from doing so. It's nobodys problem but your own that you're low on money and made the choice to run a stoplight or commit a crime. Additionally, traffic violations and crimes in general are a choice. You do the crime you pay for it.
I don't think people should he fined based on their income becasue it wouldn't be fair if I had to pay more and someone else had to pay less for the same crime as me. Yes becasue the lower class would see that they don't have to pay as much and they would't worry about breaking the law.
I can agree with your statement because I also think that if fines were based on incomes, some people would see it as unfair because they might have to pay more than other would have to pay, but some people really struggle to pay the fines.
I dont think people should be fined on their incomes because that is not fair for the lower class. If crimes were based on income there would probably be an increase becuase people in the lower class would not care becuase it would not cost all that much.
I don't think people should be fined based on their income because I think the rate of crime would go up because the lower income people would think that because they are lower it doesn't matter as much. If it were to change I think it should only be for the traffic violations.
I agree with you. I think that if fines were based on incomes, the crime rate might rise because the lower class would be fined for less, so they might begin to commit the crime more because the fine is more payable for them.
I think that they should take this into consideration for certain things, such as, traffic violations. When it comes to crimes, I think the rate will go up because people in the lower class could possibly commit crimes and have a low fine, which isn't going to stop them from doing it. I think that with certian crimes the price of the fine should stay the same.
I totaly agree that people should be fined based on income, the current system is not fair. I dont think it would increase i think it might decrease, I agree it should be applied to traffic but also most minor charges also like littering and civil matters.
I totally agree with you, I think that our current system is unfair because a lot of people can pay the fines with no problem, yet some people have a hard time paying them and may go into debt when they do pay them, which I think needs to change.
