Fighting in hockey is one of the main things the sport is known for. Many people like the sport for that reason, but this has caused many life long injuries, trauma, and some experienced death. But many people say there are many positives to this matter too. Some of those reasons might help so their isn't as many injures as there would be if it was taken out.
Hockey brawls started in 1922 when the NHL passed Rule 56 which regulated that if they fought on open ice, instead of being ejected they had a 5 minute penalty spent in the penalty box. But this rule has caused an average of 20,000 people in the hospital a year from fighting in hockey. A man named Derek Boogaard is a former NHL player and was inflicted in over 100 fights in his time in the league. But this caused his death in 2018 from head trauma.
At the same time, many people think if they take out this rule and don't let players fight, it will cause many more mid game cheap shots while the other player isn’t looking and cause worse injury. Without this rule, the sport would not nearly have as much fans and attendance at games. Fighting is one of the main things people come for, and if they take it away, the sport will then be way less popular.
Do you think they should take out fighting in hockey?
Do you think it is a bad or good thing for the players?
Do you watch hockey just for the fights?

Interesting topic choice Caleb! You could have replied more frequently.
I personally don't think that they should take fighting out of Hockey. Fighting in hockey is a very important part of the sport, when people think of hockey they often think of the fights that break out and how physically demanding this sport is. I believe that the players would have to contribute to the fight in hockey so if a player didn't want to fight then they should just act respectful and don't be cocky.
I think that they should not take the fighting away because it is popular for its fighting and its physical contact. I think that is probably not a good thing for the players but I think that they should just keep their helments and gloves on when they do fight. I personally have a uncle that use to play hockey but now doesn't but my cousins are big hockey players and I watch them sometimes in Omaha, but I think that the fighting might be the best part of it.
I dont watch hocky so i have no idea what its mainly about. I know you have a stick and a puck and you try and get it into the goal but if the fighting has a lot to do with it, they should keep it. I think its probably a bad thing but i really dont know.
I don't watch hockey other than in person once in a while. When I do watch hockey, the fights are the best part. I don't think that hockey would be the same without the fighting. While the sport is interesting enough alone, I think that the fighting makes it a lot better. I think that if the refs took control when the fights go too far it could save many people from injuries.
I personally don’t watch hockey. So while it doesn’t affect me, I don’t think fighting should be taken out of hockey. If it gets out of hand a ref can hopefully stop it. Otherwise, if there’s no fighting allowed then people will take illegal shots. Most sports result in fighting sometimes for example, football, soccer, etc.
I don't think fighting should get taken out of hockey. That's my favorite part of the game. I also think it helps prevent people from taking cheap shots during the game which probably prevents serious injury. However, I think that the refs need to interfere with the fights before they get taken out of control and someone ends up hurt or killed.
I don't watch hockey so whether or not they fight doesn't matter to me. In some ways, it might be entertaining for fans to watch. In other ways, I'm not sure I would want to fight because it would be painful as the player. I'm sure the sport would get less attention if there wasn't fighting, but if I was the one playing, I wouldn't want to have to fight.
Fighting should be taken out of hockey. Runnining into eachother or pushing people out of the way is less dangerous. There's tackling in football, but people can get penalized if they are intentionally trying to hurt someone. I don't watch any kind of sports. Hockey isn't my thing and just seeing football players get hit really hard make me cringe.
I don't think fighting should be taken out because it's one of the things that contributes to the excitment in the sport, and if you were to take it out there my not be near as many fans watching. Hockey is fun and aggressive and the players knew what they were getting into when they decided to play, so why take it out?
