Should Excessive Celebration Be A Penalty?

Excessive celebration in football refers to when players celebrate a touchdown or a big play in a way that goes beyond the usual celebrations. It’s all about expressing excitement and joy, but sometimes it can be a little too much. When a player scores a touchdown, they might perform elaborate dances, choreographed routines, or even bring out props to celebrate. The purpose is to showcase their individuality, entertain the fans, and create memorable moments. It adds an extra layer of excitement to the game and can add energy in the stadium. However, there are some downsides to excessive celebration as well. It can lead to penalties and fines for the team, which can have negative consequences in terms of field position or momentum. Excessive celebration can also disrupt the flow of the game, causing delays and interruptions. Additionally, it can create tension between teams, especially if the celebration is seen as disrespectful or taunting. Overall, excessive celebration in football has both positives and negatives. It brings entertainment and excitement to the game, allowing players to express their individuality and connect with fans. But at the same time, it can have negative repercussions in terms of penalties and disruptions. I personally do not think that there should be a penalty for excessive celebration, but certain things should be off limits.

  • I don't think that excessive celebration should be a penalty because it shows a person's individuality and shows that this player is excited with what they have worked hard for and accomplished. I think that there should be some limits of things that you can do when celebrating because you don't want the game to be delayed because someone is celebrating.

  • I don't feel like it should be a pentalty. I get how the other side's feelings could be hurt if nobody is really celebrating for the. But, life isn't always fair. When I went to the playoff game, it was really cold, there was like nobody really cheering for us.

  • I don't think Excessive celebration should be a penalty it takes away from the fun of the game. It allows players to be creative and entertain the crowd. However there should be a limit to these celebrations they should get to crazy.

  • I think it should result in a penalty because it shows how much they disrespect the other team, and it gives the other team a chance. I only think a few things shouldn't happen when celebrating like taunting the other team or making fun of them.

  • I think it depends on the celebration. If the celebrator is making fun of the other team, wasting time, or being inappropriate, then there should be some sort of penalty. If they're not, then there shouldn't be a penalty.

  • I don't think excessive celebration should be a penalty. I think it adds fun to the game and it shows every players induviduality which I think is good. It's also  just fun to see someone celebrating a win because they work hard for them, they should be able to celebrate the win any way they want.

  • I don't think excessive celebrating is bad unless it's inappropriate or harmful in any way. People should be able to celebrate their wins in life. That is what makes things so special and fun. I think players should know what they can and can't do on television, and what they can do when the tv isn't on them. Theres a certain time and place for everything.

  • Unless it is something that is not appropriate to put on national television, I do not think that it should be a thing. Something excessive should be a warning, and then a penalty. If people on the bench are running on the field, it should be a penalty.

  • I don't think that the first excessive celebration should be a penalty. I think that the first one should get a warning and the second one should be a penalty. A lot of times, the players are just trying to get the crowd more excited and trying to get their team more excited.

    • I agree with you, I think that the excessive penalty flag depends on the celebration. I personally think that the only time the flag should be thrown for this reasoning, is when a player is purposefully taunting the other team.
