Should energy drinks be banned for teenagers?
It's most likely that you've had at least some sort of energy drink. Monster, Bang, Rockstar, and a plethora of others. But did you know that the American Medical Association voted that people under the age of 18 should NOT be allowed to drink them? If the American Medical Association got what it wanted, this means that the new guidelines would:
1. Prohibit energy drink sales to minors.
2. Make it even illegal for minors to possess energy drinks.
3.Remove energy drinks from vending machines nation wide.
The cause for the American Medical Association's concern actually isn't that suprsing. It is recommended for a teenager to consume a MAXIMUM of 100mg of caffine per day. This would equate to about 1 cup of coffee or two sodas. One 8oz serving of Redbull alone has 75mg of caffine. Negative side affects of caffine include insomina, dehydration, increased anxiety, high blood pressure, and heart palpitations. In fact, over 123 million people visit the ER each year due to an energy drink induced incident.
Personally, I don't think that energy drinks should be banned from minors. There's far more dangerous habits a teenager could be participating in besides a quick caffine boost. Like anything else, it doesn't matter if t's blacklisted, people will still find a way. Just look at the 20's prohibition and all the bathtub moonshine that was happening. I think that it would be much safer to just go straight to the energy drink companies and make them reduce the amount of caffine in each drink instead. I also think it'd be crazy if someone could join the military at 16 but would get in serious trouble for possessing a Monster energy drink.
Do you think energy drinks should be banned for minors?
If so, why?

Great topic choice and good summary Violet! Be sure to comment back a few more times and on three different days.
No I don't think that energy drinks should be banned from minors. I think they should have the choice to make there own decission on what they want to put in their bodys. Also your parents are there to tell you all the side effects and tell you how right or wrong something is but ultamently I think it should be our choice.
I think that energy drinks should not be banned for minors. They should not be banned because if they banned the sale of energy drinks to minors the energy drink companies will lose a lot of money.
I personally Think energy drinks are fine for minors it would be a dumb thing to ban. I think it would be dumb because most kids drink them responsibly but some kids might not I think you just have to be smart about drinking them especially if you have a heart condition.
Energy drinks are perfectly fine when drank(drunk?) responsibly. It's when you have 3 or more in one sitting when it causes problems. Caffine is a good way to stay awake, but relying on it to get you through the entire night will only lead to you becoming sleep deprived. A lot of people around the world have a major reliance on caffine products, such as a morning coffee or energy drink, including some teenagers. Removing something that gets their day started and keep it going whilst it doesn't have any major downsides like alcohol or smoking. Removing some caffine from energy drinks might cause another issue, in that people wouldn't get their day fully started with just 1, now they have 2 and it suddenly becomes to much. Everybody's body is different, removing energy drinks from minors wouldn't affect those who don't use it, but would be devastating for those who do.
I do not think that energy drinks should be banned for minors or anyone because a lot of people rely on them to get through the day and most of them are no worse than drinking coffe. I think most people dont like them because they are sumwhat new and arnt as popular as coffe is.
I agree with you that energy drinks shouldn't be banned for minors, I just don't think it would work either. People would just switch other to another form of caffine like coffee or caffine pills.
Energy drinks are very unhealthy and bad for anybody but, if they are banned energy drink companies would lose major profit from banning teens from drinking them. So, I do not think they should ban energy drinks from teenagers. Although I personally don't drink them.
I think energy drinks are unhealthy but shouldn't be banned from usage by teenagers. I believe that teenagers have the right to make their own choice on whether or not they want to consume an unhealthy beverage. I think some energy drinks arent horrible to the user of they work off the calories they consumed.
I agree with you, even though they are somewhat unhealthy, it doesn't mean that they should out right ban them all. Especially since there are some energy drinks that are healthier then others.
